Today was one of those days that reminded me how quickly my mood can swing between hope and discouragement.

The day began with a lot of reflection. I found myself thinking about my life, the choices I made, the years I spent immersed in religion, and all the roads I never traveled. I felt overwhelmed by the sense that maybe I had given too much of myself away trying to do the right thing, trying to help others, and trying to live according to beliefs that no longer seem to fit. More than anything, I felt the weight of time. At 66 years old, I found myself wondering if I had missed my chances. It was one of the more discouraging days I’ve had in a while.

Wanting some encouragement, I found myself watching videos from Maggie Murphy and other manifestation teachers. One thing that struck me was a discussion about the 7-Day Mental Diet. The basic idea was simple: stop feeding negative stories. Not by pretending everything is wonderful, but by refusing to endlessly rehearse painful thoughts. That message hit home because I realized how much of the day I had spent replaying the story that I had somehow ruined my life. Maybe the goal isn’t to convince myself that everything happened perfectly. Maybe it’s simply to stop strengthening the belief that everything went wrong.

As I was leaving the yard later today for a McD coffee, I noticed a patch of flowers and snapped a picture. Maybe it was about growth. Maybe what looks like something moving away is really something expanding into new places. It got me thinking about potential video ideas for the Already Becoming channel.

I stopped off at Home Depot to pick up a couple of fans (see photo to the right). Nothing else. The summer days in the Barn Suite can be almost unbearable.

Later, outside McDonald’s, I spotted an old vintage pickup truck parked beside a modern truck. That image spoke to me even more. It felt like a metaphor for the different versions of ourselves that exist throughout a lifetime. The younger version of me. The religious version. The ambitious entrepreneur. The father. The dreamer. The man sitting in a parking lot drinking coffee and wondering what comes next. Maybe none of those versions are wrong. Maybe they’re all part of the same journey.

The day took an unexpected turn when Micron announced earnings after the market closed. The stock soared after hours, driven by strong results and growing demand for AI-related memory products. As someone who spends a lot of time thinking about AI, investing, and the future, it felt like another piece of evidence that the AI revolution continues to gather momentum. The future may be uncertain, but it certainly isn’t standing still.

I also spent some time researching college culture. After watching videos that made it seem like everyone is constantly hooking up and living wildly different lives than my generation did, I learned that the reality is much more nuanced. The internet often magnifies the most visible and dramatic behaviors, while most young people are simply trying to navigate school, friendships, relationships, and their futures. It was a useful reminder that media often presents a distorted picture of reality.

Finally, I watched another Andrew Taylor Spud Fit video. In it, he visited the South Melbourne Market and bought nearly eight kilograms of potatoes for about eleven dollars. The video wasn’t really about potatoes. It was about simplicity. No complicated rules. No miracle foods. Just finding a practical, affordable way to eat. As I continue experimenting with my own AI Diet, I find myself drawn to that philosophy more and more. Simple. Sustainable. Repeatable.

As I sit here reflecting on the day, I’m reminded of something important. Earlier today, I felt like the story was over. Yet the day kept unfolding. McDonald’s. Flowers. Old trucks. AI earnings. Potato videos. Small conversations. New thoughts. New possibilities.

Maybe that’s the lesson.

The story isn’t over.

Some days the future feels invisible. Some days grief speaks louder than hope. But even on those days, life continues to quietly offer new scenes, new lessons, and new opportunities to pay attention.

And perhaps that is enough for today.
