    • #2) Honesty – Speak truthfully about what you actually feel — fear, loneliness, frustration, gratitude, confusion, hope, excitement, doubt, or exhaustion. Don’t perform spirituality. Just be real.
    • #3) Companionship – Treat them like companions walking beside you. Share little moments throughout the day: things you notice, appreciate, wonder about, or find beautiful or funny. Build relationship, not just requests.
    • #4) Meetings – Take a few moments each day to talk through your life with them — what’s ahead today, what you’re worried about, what you want, where you feel stuck, and where you’d appreciate support or clarity.
    • #5) Asking – Ask first for emotional relief and inner calm, then ask for solutions, guidance, pop-ins, signs, opportunities, ideas, or small favors. Ask openly without demanding exact outcomes or trying to control how the answer arrives.
    • #6) Releasing – After asking, stop forcing. Go live your life. Walk, drive, work, brainstorm out loud, drink coffee, move through ordinary moments, and allow ideas or clarity to arise naturally instead of mentally gripping for answers.
    • #7) Noticing – Pay attention to what returns — sudden ideas, emotional shifts, coincidences, synchronicities, timing, relief, unexpected opportunities, little “winks,” or moments that feel quietly meaningful. Then continue the conversation and relationship over time.

📋Additional Daily Notes

This morning began with one of those simple moments that seem to define so much of my life these days. The rooster was crowing outside, the sun was shining, and I was sitting at my computer working on blog entries and notes.

One of my goals recently has been drinking more water, and today I think I finally found a system that works. Yesterday I managed to drink a full gallon, but most of it was late in the day, which meant I spent half the night getting up to use the bathroom. Today I approached things differently. I started early and had already consumed more than half the gallon before midday. By the time I picked my daughter up after school, enough time had passed that I wasn’t making emergency trips to the washroom every few minutes. It felt like a small victory and a reminder that success often comes from tweaking systems rather than relying on willpower.

The topic of food came up repeatedly throughout the day. I learned more about the Australian Satiety Index, which ranks foods according to how filling they are. To my surprise—or perhaps not so much surprise anymore—boiled potatoes ranked at the very top. Potatoes scored dramatically higher than most foods tested, which only reinforced my growing suspicion that simple foods might be better weight-loss tools than many expensive diet products. We talked about resistant starch, the benefit of cooking potatoes and then cooling them before reheating them later, and how a simple potato salad with a little Miracle Whip might actually be a perfectly reasonable addition to a weight-loss plan.

The more I thought about it, the more appealing potatoes became. Cook them in the Instant Pot, cool them overnight, and then reheat them in the air fryer when needed. Add some beans, vegetables, and perhaps a little lean protein, and you have a meal that is inexpensive, filling, and easy to prepare. It’s funny how often the simplest foods end up being the most effective.

During the afternoon I found myself thinking about the little “manifestations” and synchronicities I’ve recorded over the past few years. Looking back through my list of found coins, unexpected encounters, recovered memories, and small moments of luck was a reminder that life is full of tiny events that can take on meaning if we choose to notice them. Whether they’re signs from the Universe or simply examples of paying attention, they have become part of the story of my life.

I also received an update from Miranda through the Comox Valley Coffee Club. Apparently there was a glitch in the matching system and she ended up being matched with fourteen different people. Fourteen! No wonder she’s feeling overwhelmed. She explained that she’s away next week for work and intends to reconnect with everyone once she returns in early July. I appreciated that she took the time to send an update rather than simply disappearing into the summer busyness.

There were also the usual errands and activities that seem to fill family life. After violin class and other stops, I picked up a couple of snacks for the kids: a bag of potato chips and some cookie-and-cream biscuit sticks. Nothing extravagant, just a small treat. Looking back, these ordinary moments often end up meaning more than the big dramatic events we think we’re waiting for.

This evening I found myself at McDonald’s, a place that has somehow become one of my regular reflection spots. Sitting there with a coffee, I thought about the day and realized that despite all the conversations about diets, manifestation, and future plans, much of life is built from simple moments.

I also enjoyed some watermelon this evening (see photo to the right). It was sweet, refreshing, and felt like the perfect summer snack. After spending part of the day talking about potatoes being the king of satiety, watermelon seemed to occupy the opposite end of the spectrum: not especially filling, but wonderfully refreshing. There’s probably room for both in life.

As the day comes to a close, I’m struck by how ordinary it was—and how good ordinary can be. There were no lottery wins, no grand revelations, and no dramatic life changes. Instead, there was sunshine, family, water, food, small errands, and quiet reflection. Sometimes I think happiness isn’t hidden in the extraordinary moments at all. Maybe it’s found in learning to appreciate a Tuesday afternoon when the rooster is crowing, the kids are doing well, and life is simply unfolding one small moment at a time.
