📋Additional Daily Notes
Today felt like one of those strange in-between days where ordinary life, reflection, family moments, and deeper emotional searching all kept overlapping each other. Earlier in the day I spent time thinking about health, food, sugar, and the ideas from Dr. Robert Lustig about insulin, processed foods, and why modern diets make people feel constantly hungry and exhausted. The more I listened to him talk, the more it reminded me of my own AI Diet experiments — potatoes, vegetables, egg whites, simple meals, and how different I felt during the periods when I stripped away most processed foods and sugar. It was interesting realizing that some of the things I discovered through trial and error over the past couple of years line up closely with what metabolic researchers are now saying.
I also spent part of the day thinking about Vancouver and the possibility of one day renting or even buying a place near UBC. Something about the quieter atmosphere there appeals to me — the trees, the walking paths, bookstores, coffee shops, ocean air, and reflective feeling of the area. The idea of renting first instead of buying immediately actually started making more sense as I thought about it. Not as some kind of investment move, but more as a lifestyle experiment. Somewhere peaceful to think, walk, write, and simply exist for a while.
At one point today I looked at the latest stats for the newsletter and was honestly surprised by how strong the engagement numbers were. Over 73% of people opened it and over 17% clicked links, which apparently is extremely high for a local newsletter. It made me realize that maybe the little local observations I make — Costco deals, weather shifts, cafés, Snowbirds, odd moments around town — actually do connect with people. The newsletter has slowly started becoming its own little Comox Valley rhythm.

This afternoon and evening I found myself drifting back into one of my ongoing “Universe conversations” while driving around Courtenay. I went to McDonalds for a meal (see photo to the right). After talking to one of the Philippino cashiers about their festival on November 1st where they meet in gradeyards, and had a meal (see photo to the right), I left McDonald’s and drove through parking lots.
I drove all around the Dollar Store and Home Depot, half-joking and half-serious, asking the Universe for some kind of sign that I’m loved, noticed, or not completely alone in all of this. I kept looking for coins or little “winks” from reality like I’ve talked about before. Instead, I found things like a discarded sock in a parking lot, which somehow became symbolic in my tired emotional state. The whole thing gradually turned into this strange mixture of humor, frustration, loneliness, absurdity, and existential questioning. Looking back now, I think I was less interested in finding an actual coin and more interested in feeling reassured that life itself is responding somehow.
One thing that stayed with me tonight was the realization that I’ve probably been putting enormous emotional meaning onto tiny external events lately. A coin becomes hope. A missing sign becomes rejection. A sock becomes proof the universe doesn’t care. But underneath all of it is really just the same old human question: “Do I matter?” Maybe that’s the real thing I’ve been searching parking lots for.
I also worked on ideas for tomorrow’s Already Becoming long video using footage I shot near Seal Bay Nature Park the other day. A family of deer walked slowly down the middle of the road in front of the car like they completely belonged there. No fear. No rushing. No self-consciousness. Just existing naturally inside the world. The more I thought about it, the more symbolic it started to feel. Humans spend so much time questioning whether we belong, while those deer simply moved through life without apology. I ended up building an entire narration script around that idea.
Music drifted through my head tonight too, especially old 1974 songs and that line from Silly Love Songs: “Stand tall, don’t you fall…” It strangely matched the emotional tone of the evening. Underneath all the frustration and questioning, there’s still some part of me that keeps searching, keeps hoping, keeps talking to the Universe, keeps making videos, keeps writing, and keeps imagining that life still has more meaning ahead.
And maybe that part — the part that keeps looking — matters more than whether I find a coin in a parking lot.
