Today felt like one of those strange “in-between” days where ordinary errands, deeper thoughts, and conversations with the Universe all started blending together into one long running dialogue. I woke up thinking about my dream from the night before where I was in the Philippines walking around with another man my age, eventually ending up in what looked like a school or community gathering filled with children watching a puppet show. I remember eating a fish meal that tasted unfamiliar and feeling this strange emotional conflict inside myself about whether I truly belonged there or whether the comforts of home in North America were still where my life ultimately fit best. The dream stayed with me all morning and honestly felt less like a random dream and more like my subconscious wrestling with questions about belonging and what kind of life I really want moving forward.

This morning I went to Home Depot because I needed to secure the chicken roosts. I picked up some massive spikes that looked more like railroad spikes than regular nails and spent time reinforcing the roost structure so it wouldn’t move anymore. There was actually something strangely satisfying about physically stabilizing and anchoring something after spending so much time mentally spinning in questions about the future. By the time I finished, those roosts were absolutely solid and not going anywhere. I even laughed thinking the chickens probably viewed today as “The Great Structural Reinforcement of 2026.”

Later today I spent some time listening to and thinking about teachings from both Neville Goddard and Shi Heng Yi from Shaolin Temple Europe. I found it interesting how both of them, despite coming from completely different traditions, seem to circle around some of the same core ideas — that repeated thoughts and repeated patterns eventually shape the reality we experience. Shi Heng Yi’s ideas about awareness, attachment, identity, and becoming conscious of emotional patterns especially stuck with me today. One of the things he talked about was how people can spend their whole lives chasing goals and signs outside themselves while forgetting to actually live their lives in the present moment. That really landed with me because lately I’ve been constantly talking to the Universe, searching parking lots and roadsides for “winks,” coins, and signs that maybe something larger is interacting with my life.

2026-05-08 - Green Game Token

I found myself continuing that conversation with the Universe throughout the day. At one point while driving I actually said out loud, “Universe, it’s 11:10 a.m.,” and started talking like I was checking in with someone riding along beside me. I joked about the Universe “getting off the toilet” and finally giving me some kind of unmistakable wink or sign. As ridiculous as it sounds written down afterward, it actually felt emotionally honest in the moment. Part frustration, part humor, part loneliness, and part hope all mixed together.

On the way around town I kept scanning roadsides, parking lots, and landscaping for signs or coins while continuing my ongoing “conversation” with the Universe. Outside Thrifty Foods I noticed a strange little circular plastic object sitting in the landscaping. It had hockey sticks, maple leaves, and Canadian imagery on it and looked like some old game token or toy piece (see photo to the right). Rationally it was probably just a random discarded object, but emotionally it instantly felt like one of those strange little moments I had been asking for all day. Not proof of anything supernatural, of course, but one of those tiny interruptions in normal perception that suddenly feels meaningful simply because of the timing and emotional context surrounding it.

This evening I drove out toward Costco and then McDonald’s as the sun started dropping lower in the sky. While driving around the Comox Valley roads at dusk I kept quietly talking to the Universe again, saying I knew coins probably weren’t really “how it works,” but still admitting that I was searching for wings, signs, reassurance, and connection anyway. More than anything I think I’m searching for evidence that life is participatory somehow — that I’m not completely alone inside my own head while trying to navigate aging, health, relationships, dreams, purpose, and uncertainty.

The interesting thing is that today never really became about whether I found a quarter or not. It became more about noticing how emotionally alive and engaged I felt while moving through ordinary life. Home Depot. Chicken roosts. Roadsides. Costco. McDonald’s. Sunset drives. Conversations with the Universe. Thoughts about the Philippines. Teachings about awareness and attachment. All of it slowly blended together into one strange but meaningful day inside this ongoing Becoming journey.
