    • #4) Meetings – Take a few moments each day to talk through your life with them — what’s ahead today, what you’re worried about, what you want, where you feel stuck, and where you’d appreciate support or clarity.
    • #5) Asking – Ask first for emotional relief and inner calm, then ask for solutions, guidance, pop-ins, signs, opportunities, ideas, or small favors. Ask openly without demanding exact outcomes or trying to control how the answer arrives.
    • #6) Releasing – After asking, stop forcing. Go live your life. Walk, drive, work, brainstorm out loud, drink coffee, move through ordinary moments, and allow ideas or clarity to arise naturally instead of mentally gripping for answers.
    • #7) Noticing – Pay attention to what returns — sudden ideas, emotional shifts, coincidences, synchronicities, timing, relief, unexpected opportunities, little “winks,” or moments that feel quietly meaningful. Then continue the conversation and relationship over time.

📋Additional Daily Notes

Today felt like one of those days where a lot of seemingly unrelated things somehow ended up circling the same idea: I’m still trying to build something. A healthier body. A novel people might actually want to read. An audience. A different future. Maybe even a different version of myself.

2026-10-17 - Spaghetti Dinner

I had time to make some vegetarian spaghetti that really “hit the spot” (see photo to the right).

Around lunchtime I dropped my daughter off to see Amy and then went to McDonald’s for a coffee while I waited to pick her up again. I remember looking at the clock and realizing how quickly an hour disappears. By the time I got settled with my coffee, I really only had about half an hour to myself. Still, there was something nice about simply sitting there, parked with a coffee, having nowhere particularly important to be for those few minutes.

I was also thinking about the Lotto 6/49 draw tonight. This was the final draw of this particular little season of anticipation for me, and of course there was that familiar thought in the back of my mind: maybe tonight is the night everything changes. Maybe millions of dollars suddenly appear and the entire landscape of my life shifts overnight. The draw eventually came and went. The big Gold Ball jackpot wasn’t won. Life, apparently, would continue in its slightly less cinematic fashion.

But maybe that was appropriate, because earlier today I noticed something far more ordinary that ended up meaning more to me.

I saw a tree.

The sky was an incredible deep blue, the sun was shining, and this tree had turned brilliant red for autumn. The sunlight was hitting the leaves in such a way that the whole thing almost seemed to be glowing. I’ve seen thousands of trees changing colour in my lifetime, but for some reason I stopped for this one and took a photograph.

That photograph became the seed for my next YouTube video.

As I worked on the narration, I realized why the tree had affected me. Everything beautiful about it was happening precisely because it was changing. A few weeks ago those leaves were green. Soon they’ll be on the ground. Eventually the branches will be completely bare. But today, at this particular moment in between, the tree was spectacular.

And that led me to thinking about how differently we treat ourselves.

We’re forever waiting for the finished version. I’ll be happy when I lose the weight. When I have enough money. When I find the relationship. When I finally figure out what I’m supposed to be doing with my life. There is always some improved future version of ourselves standing just over the horizon.

Meanwhile, today keeps happening.

I also spent a substantial chunk of tonight working on The Man Who Noticed Her. From 8:27 until 10:06—99 minutes—I worked on finalizing the first few chapters and establishing the reader preview. Together with a few minutes spent recording my weight, that brought today’s Daily Becoming total to 102 minutes, well beyond my 60-minute target. More importantly, it marked 106 consecutive days of doing this and brought the experiment to 187.88 lifetime hours.

I started thinking seriously tonight about how I might actually find the first readers for the novel. One idea was to look toward Silliman University in Dumaguete. Since the novel is Filipino and connected to that world, why not find people who actually know it? Students or graduates interested in English, literature and creative writing could potentially be exactly the people I need—not hundreds of anonymous clicks, but maybe five real people willing to read the first chapter and tell me whether they want the second.

That evolved into what I think may be an even better experiment: instead of randomly messaging strangers on Facebook, perhaps I could run a very small Facebook ad aimed toward Silliman and Dumaguete readers. Something along the lines of: I’m a Canadian writer working on a novel about a young Filipina connected to Dumaguete and Silliman University. I need five readers. Would you read the opening chapter and tell me whether her world feels real?

I like that idea.

It changes the proposition from please read my book to help me get this right.

And somewhere in the middle of all of this, because apparently my brain refuses to stay in one lane for very long, I started wondering whether I could make flatbreads out of sweet potato, arrowroot and flaxseed. Turns out I probably can. Better yet, I could experiment with making them in the dehydrator—spread them thin, dry them just long enough to remain flexible, and potentially end up with an oil-free sweet-potato wrap that gives me another way of eating the simple foods I’m trying to build my diet around.

McDonald’s coffee. Lottery dreams. A glowing red tree. YouTube videos. Filipino novels. Facebook ads. Sweet-potato flatbread.

That was Saturday.

And beneath all of those little things, I think there actually was a common thread.

I keep looking toward the future. Toward losing the weight. Toward finding readers. Toward making something successful. Toward money and freedom and love and whatever the next chapter of my life is supposed to look like.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting those things.

But maybe that tree was reminding me not to overlook the person standing here today simply because he hasn’t become the person he hopes to be tomorrow.

I’m unfinished.

The novel is unfinished.

The body is unfinished.

The plan is unfinished.

Hell, most of my life feels unfinished.

But the tree was unfinished too.

And today, it glowed.
