📋Additional Daily Notes
Today started off a little frustrating. I was heading out for a simple coffee—nothing major, just part of the rhythm—but my knee flared up again. Same issue, same irritation. It’s one of those things that reminds me that progress isn’t always linear, especially physically. So instead of pushing it, I stayed home. That part felt like a small loss in the moment, but also like the right call long-term. No need to make things worse just to stick to a routine.

Even with that setback, I stayed on track with the “Favorite Plate,” which felt like a win. That’s becoming more automatic now. There was a time when a disruption like that might have knocked the whole day sideways, but not today. Food stayed consistent. Structure stayed intact. That matters more than the missed coffee trip.
Later on, I did end up at McDonald’s anyway—this time with a bit more intention. I grabbed a medium coffee using 2,000 points, so it was free. One oat beverage, one Splenda. Sat there with it, taking things in. The cup said “McHappy Day — May 6,” (see photo to the right), which got me curious. Turns out it’s a charity day where part of the proceeds go to help families with sick children. Interesting how even a simple coffee cup can carry a message like that.
From there, the day shifted into something deeper—finances, investing, and really thinking about where I’m at.
I looked at my stock portfolio numbers again. I reviewed my holdings in detail—everything from NVDA, which is now a massive position, down through the rest of the portfolio. It became very clear that I’m no longer just “buying stocks.” I’m managing a system.
At the same time, I’ve got cash sitting in my Fidelity account ready to deploy. That’s where the real thinking started. I’ve been looking at the Motley Fool Epic Portfolio—50 stocks, equal weighting in their model. At first glance, it looks like a great strategy. Broad exposure, lots of potential winners.
But the deeper I looked, the more I realized something important: they’re building a discovery portfolio. I’m not in that phase anymore. I already have a winner—NVDA. A big one. So the question isn’t “how do I find a winner?” It’s “how do I expand intelligently from here?”
We broke down the Epic Portfolio and identified some of the standout names—Cloudflare, Axon, Amazon, BillionToOne. Some of these have massive upside potential, but also varying levels of risk. It became clear that trying to copy all 50 equally would dilute everything. That would turn a high-conviction portfolio into something average.
Instead, the idea started to form around a hybrid approach—keep my core identity, but layer in selected Epic-style positions. Not everything. Just the ones that actually make sense alongside what I already own.
We also talked through specific execution strategies, like placing limit orders. I initially thought about setting all orders 5% below current prices and just waiting. But that approach has a flaw—you can miss the move entirely if the stock doesn’t dip. The better approach turned out to be layering entries: buy some now, some at -5%, some at -10%, and so on. That way I’m always participating, but also taking advantage of volatility when it shows up.
Tesla became a specific example. Closed at $376.30, and I mapped out a full set of orders to build a position across different price levels. That felt more structured, less emotional.
There was also a moment where I caught myself thinking I could “time” a market drop—watch futures, wait for bad news, jump in at the perfect moment. But the reality is, markets don’t reward that kind of thinking consistently. By the time you “know,” it’s often already moved. The better mindset is to always be positioned and then add when opportunities appear—not wait for the perfect setup.
We also broke down TSLA vs NVDA vs AMZN, which helped clarify roles. NVDA is the proven engine. Amazon is the balanced compounder. Tesla is the high-upside, high-uncertainty bet. That framing made it easier to see how each one fits into the bigger picture.
Looking back on the day, it’s interesting how it all ties together.
A sore knee forced a pause.
A free coffee created a moment.
A simple question about a cup led to a charity insight.
That’s the pattern lately.
Not big dramatic moves…
But small moments stacking into clarity.
Becoming, one decision at a time.
