📋Additional Daily Notes
Today didn’t begin with action—it began with a feeling. That strange, in-between space where I wasn’t fully asleep, but not fully awake either. A kind of morning whisper. The kind that doesn’t shout instructions, but quietly suggests something deeper.
I had watched the first episode of Kung Fu the night before, and somehow that carried into the morning. Not the plot, not the details—but the feeling of it. Discipline. Stillness. A different kind of masculinity. A quieter one. It made me wonder, not in a heavy or regretful way, but just curiously… what if I had gone down that path back then? Martial arts, philosophy, a simpler life. Names from the past drifted in—my friend Tony from NS, old memories, even thoughts of my friend Annette. Not painful, just present. Like looking through an old photo album without needing to change anything in it.
And layered into that was the influence of Eckhart Tolle—the idea of just being. Not chasing. Not forcing. Just existing in the moment as it is.

Later that morning, I found myself sitting in the car in Cumberland waiting for my daughter to finish a presentation at an elementary school. A completely normal, grounded dad moment. Quiet. Still. And yet, sitting on my lap was something completely different—an old Ben Weider 12-lesson self-defense course on my Amazon Fire. Bright red. Intense. “Lesson No. 7: Thuggee.” (see photo to the right). It looked like I was about to begin some dramatic transformation… but really, I was just waiting in a parking spot.
And somehow, that contrast made perfect sense.
It was like a scene out of Green Acres—everything normal, but slightly off. A peaceful morning, a parental moment, and a vintage self-defense program all coexisting like that’s the most natural thing in the world. No one questions it. Not even me.
That’s when something clicked.
I don’t need to go back and become the guy who chose martial arts. I don’t need to chase a different life. What I’m actually drawn to is the essence of that path—calm, discipline, presence. And that doesn’t require a dojo or a new identity. It just requires showing up differently in the life I already have.
The rest of the day started to line up with that realization.
Food became simple again. My first meal was a plate of baby potatoes, salad, and tofu. Nothing extreme. Nothing trendy. Just something that worked. Something familiar. And it hit me—I’ve already done this before. I’ve already lost over 50 pounds in about 80 days using a simple, repeatable approach. No carnivore diet. No vegan identity. No chasing the “perfect” system.
Just consistency.
And yet, earlier in the day, I found myself asking questions about carnivore vs. keto, about joining a gym, about even chasing something as extreme as a world record in chin-ups. When I saw that list of questions all together, it became obvious: I wasn’t really searching for information. I was searching for change. Fast, complete, total change.
But today showed me something different.
I don’t need a new system.
I need to re-enter the one that already worked… calmly.
There was also something else in the background today—a message about “digesting” life instead of being consumed by it. The idea that when something triggers you, instead of fighting it or avoiding it, you process it. Break it down. Learn from it. Just like the body breaks down food. You’re not what happens to you—you’re what transforms what happens to you.
That landed.
Because it ties everything together.
The past. The memories. The “what ifs.” The desire for change. The pull toward discipline. The need for simplicity. None of it requires a dramatic shift. It just requires a different way of engaging with what’s already here.
So today wasn’t about doing more.
It was about noticing more.
Moving a little slower. Sitting a little stiller. Eating a little simpler. Letting thoughts come and go without grabbing onto them. And realizing that the version of me I thought I missed out on… might still be available after all.
Not in the past.
Right here.
