📋Additional Daily Notes

This morning started off at the Coffee Cabin, grabbing a cappuccino and a couple of donuts (see photo to the right). There’s something about that kind of start — simple, a little indulgent, sitting there with a warm drink — that just feels like easing into the day instead of rushing it. From there, it somehow turned into a McDonald’s breakfast run as well. Not planned, just one of those “why not” moments that stack on top of each other.
And that’s kind of the point right now.
Because today isn’t about perfection — it’s about awareness. It’s the last full day before AI Diet v2.0 really begins. So instead of trying to force a perfect day, I’m just noticing how things actually unfold. One choice leads to another, and before long, you’ve got a full morning built out of small decisions.
Later in the day, I stopped into Subway and grabbed a sandwich. Sat there, phone propped up, watching something while eating. Outside, it was that classic Comox Valley look — wet pavement, grey sky, headlights reflecting off the road. Quiet, steady, nothing dramatic. The kind of scene that doesn’t demand anything from you.
And then… McDonald’s again after that.
If there was ever a perfect snapshot of “before,” this is it.
Because the shift isn’t about pretending this doesn’t happen — it’s about deciding what happens next.
In between all that, I found myself in Costco, and that’s where one of those small but meaningful moments showed up. Right near the entrance: the Ninja Creami. Regularly $299.99, down to $199.99. Over a third off. And instantly, it connected. If I’m going to build something sustainable, something repeatable, then having a way to make my own “treats” actually matters. Half cream, half milk — done. And when you think about what Häagen-Dazs costs now… yeah, this thing doesn’t take long to pay for itself.
It’s not really about the machine. It’s about control. About setting things up so the better choice becomes the easier one.
Later on, I spent some time working on the newsletter. This week’s issue is shaping up — Snowbirds training over Comox, live music at the Waverley, the Cowboy Cookout at Gladstone, and now this Costco find to tie it all together. It’s starting to feel like a real snapshot of the Valley — not just events, but moments.
And there’s something else forming too. Adding that Valley Roots section. A simple acknowledgment of where we are, and highlighting something Indigenous each week. It doesn’t feel forced — it feels like something that should have been there all along.
By the end of the day, nothing dramatic had happened. No big turning point. Just a series of ordinary choices, stacked together.
But that’s exactly what makes this day matter.
Because tomorrow is Day 1 of TheAIdiet v2.0.
This is the “before.”
