2025-03-07 - The Coffee Shoppe

The ABC Nightly News tonight mentioned that 60 years ago this Sunday was the infamous walk across the Edmond Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama. They showcased “The Coffee Shoppe” (see photo to the right) where blacks had to be served through a window out back as they were not allowed to sit inside with whites. It was called “The Thirsty Boy” back then and I guess they served up a delicious and famous “Ham Sandwich”! Let’s hope we don’t descend back into those dark times of racial hatred and injustice!

I spent some time on Google Maps this evening tracing the route that the walkers went… From down south, across the bridge, up to 1012 Broad Street where the Haisten’s Mattress and Awning Company used to be. It was there that the police met them with batons and police dogs! Sad times…

This evening I finished Chapter #2 of “Busting Loose From The Money Game” in front of my PC that was playing the audio video of Coffee Shop Jazz With Snow (see photo to the left) while I sipped my coffee. This sure set the mood! I’m going to have to do this more often, especially since there is no Panera Bread around!

What a profound book “Busting Loose From The Money Game” is. It explains life according to the idea of a game that we, as immortal beings, want to play. For example, why do people want to play any game like Survivor or such? To learn… Hmmm…

I spent this evening putting the fine touches on the inside of Evie’s “Gratitude Journal. Here’s what I have (see photo to the right). I thought the addition of some doodles into the journal added a bit of artistic flare, something that I’m going to play up more into the story of Kirk & Evie!

I had a “real” hamburger tonight with beef that I had in the freezer. I used two slightly toasted slices of bread for the bun. It was tasty, but you know, I’ve kinda got a hankering now for my vegetarian “beef” patties. I think the fact that it’s good for me actually adds to the taste of them. I washed it down with both a “Diet Coke” and a “Diet Pepsi” as I have a large box of each that I got at Costco the last time I was there.

I downloaded a bunch of Sir Paul McCartney photos that I took at his concert last November. Now to go through them and pick the best ones for the collage I’m creating!
