The day began slowly but with a sense of calm purpose. I stepped on the scale and saw 298.3 staring back at me, confirming 63.6 pounds gone since the start. Every time I write that number, it feels like a different chapter of the same book—one where the man who once waited to feel better has already begun to live as the person he imagined. The body is finally cooperating with the mind, the old resistance softening like ice under spring sun.

Outside, the air was cool and damp, the kind of morning where sound travels differently. I went out to the coop and made a new lower roost for “Spot”, the smallest of our two spotted hens. She had been watching the others climb higher, wanting to join but not quite able. It was such a small act, but it carried a feeling of satisfaction far bigger than the moment itself. I realized I was doing for her what I’ve been doing for myself all year—building reachable steps so that the next level feels natural, not forced.

Later, I turned my attention to the Dell computer. I unboxed it with that familiar blend of excitement and mild frustration that comes with new gear. I wanted to start editing my long-form Sunday video right away, but I didn’t have the right adapter for the monitor. So I drove to Best Buy, hoping to find a female-to-female 9-pin VGA connector. They didn’t have it. I tried Walmart next—no luck there either. It was one of those modern scavenger hunts where each store feels like a lesson in patience. In the end, I ordered what I needed online, both the adapter and a Dell-Interface-to-HDMI cable. Another small delay, another quiet reminder that building the tools for your next level takes time.

I signed up for HeyGen. The idea of turning still images into short, living moments appealed to me immediately. I could see how it would fit perfectly with the Becoming videos—tiny cinematic fragments that give breath to imagination. It felt like a natural evolution, one more piece of the creative ecosystem that’s forming around all of this.

As evening fell, the rain picked up again. I pulled into McDonald’s for a black coffee—two Splenda, my usual—and took a seat by the window. The place was crowded for a Friday night. A group of teenage girls had taken the booth ahead of me, laughing and scrolling on their phones. Then a boy came in, about fifteen, with that casual, restless energy of youth. He looked around, saw me, and asked if he could sit down. “Sure,” I said, surprised but amused. He smiled, extended his hand, and asked my name. He grinned wide and said he used to play a video game with that name. For a few minutes, we talked. His eyes were glassy; maybe he was high, maybe just tired. But he was polite. On the drive home, the night lights reflected off the wet pavement, and I caught myself thinking, I wouldn’t mind having steak tonight. That thought carried a certain playfulness to it—a sense of listening to an inner nudge instead of logic. So I turned the car around and went to Thrifty’s, just to see what would happen. I walked in without expectation, light-hearted, open. Sometimes that’s all it takes to shift everything: to follow a tiny spark of desire instead of analyzing it. Whether or not anything special happened at the store doesn’t even matter. What mattered was the act of turning around, of saying yes to curiosity. I ended up getting some ground beef (see photo to the right).

Back home, the rain still falling outside, I felt an easy kind of gratitude settle in. I’d moved through the day with a lighter heart. I did what needed doing, handled small frustrations, stayed open to the world, and followed impulses that made life feel alive again. The weight loss, the boy at McDonald’s, the steak detour—each one was its own proof that Becoming isn’t something far away; it’s already here, shaping the ordinary.
