📋Additional Daily Notes

2026-04-13 - Small Car

It started as one of those ordinary Valley mornings — the kind that doesn’t announce itself as meaningful in any big way. Just a stop at McDonald’s, a hot breakfast in hand, coffee on the table, and a tablet quietly playing in the background. The Mighty McMuffin sat there, opened slightly, nothing staged, nothing curated — just real life unfolding in a corner seat by the window. Outside, the light was soft and gray, that familiar Comox Valley overcast that makes everything feel a little slower, a little more reflective. It wasn’t about the food. It was about the moment. Sitting there, watching the world move, or not move, depending on how you look at it.

That’s when I noticed the car (see photo to the right).

Parked just outside was this tiny, almost toy-like electric vehicle — the kind that looks like it belongs in a future city but somehow fits perfectly into a quiet parking lot. Compact, enclosed, practical… and on the back, a license plate that said everything it needed to say: FREEDOM. Not speed. Not status. Just freedom. The ability to move, to go, to exist on your own terms, even if that means moving a little slower than everyone else. There was something about that — something that connected back to the moment inside, sitting with a coffee, not rushing, just being.

And that seems to be the thread lately.

It shows up in small ways — like stopping to take a picture, or not taking it because you’re wondering if it’s respectful. A simple Facebook post from someone in the Valley, debating whether it’s okay to pause at a fence line and admire someone else’s animals. That hesitation… that awareness… it says something about the place. There’s a quiet respect here. A sense that even the smallest actions matter. And the responses to that post? Gentle, understanding, encouraging. People reminding each other that it’s okay to appreciate what’s around you — as long as you do it with care.

It showed up again in another post — someone who lost a camera at Goose Spit. Not just a device, but five years of memories sitting inside it. You could feel the weight of that loss in their words, but also something else: hope. A belief that someone, somewhere, would find it and do the right thing. And honestly, that feels like the kind of story that could happen here. Not guaranteed. But possible.

And then there’s the other side of the day — the more practical, almost analytical side. Watching things grow. Numbers ticking up. The newsletter quietly picking up momentum — a few more subscribers, a few more opens, a few more clicks. Nothing explosive. Just steady. Real. The kind of growth that doesn’t need to shout because it’s built on something solid. People opening, reading, engaging. That’s the signal. That’s the part that matters.

Same with the conversations about investing, about timing, about not rushing in just because something feels like the right move. There’s a pattern there too. A reminder that just because you can act, doesn’t mean you should — at least not all at once. Scale in. Observe. Stay aware. It’s the same principle whether you’re managing money, building something, or just deciding how to spend your time on a random weekday.

Even something as simple as figuring out how to cook chicken breasts in an air fryer fits into that rhythm. Small improvements. Simple systems. Do it a little better, a little more intentionally. Let it rest. Don’t overcook it. There’s a metaphor in there somewhere if you want to see it.

And maybe that’s what this day really was.

Not a big moment. Not a turning point. Just a collection of small, connected observations:

  • A quiet breakfast
  • A strange little car with a big idea
  • A lost camera and the hope it returns
  • A question about respect and boundaries
  • A few more people subscribing to something you’re building

Nothing dramatic.

But all of it pointing in the same direction:

Pay attention.
Move a little slower.
Let things build.
Trust that not everything needs to happen all at once.

Because sometimes the real shift isn’t in what you do…

…it’s in how you notice what’s already there.
