    • #1) Hello – Begin by acknowledging them out loud. Simply say “Hello Universe” and open the conversation. The goal is not perfection or certainty, but connection. Say “THANK YOU” for everything and be SPECIFIC about manifestations!
    • #2) Honesty – Speak truthfully about what you actually feel — fear, loneliness, frustration, gratitude, confusion, hope, excitement, doubt, or exhaustion. Don’t perform spirituality. Just be real.
    • #3) Companionship – Treat them like companions walking beside you. Share little moments throughout the day: things you notice, appreciate, wonder about, or find beautiful or funny. Build relationship, not just requests.
    • #4) Meetings – Take a few moments each day to talk through your life with them — what’s ahead today, what you’re worried about, what you want, where you feel stuck, and where you’d appreciate support or clarity.
    • #5) Asking – Ask first for emotional relief and inner calm, then ask for solutions, guidance, pop-ins, signs, opportunities, ideas, or small favors. Ask openly without demanding exact outcomes or trying to control how the answer arrives.
    • #6) Releasing – After asking, stop forcing. Go live your life. Walk, drive, work, brainstorm out loud, drink coffee, move through ordinary moments, and allow ideas or clarity to arise naturally instead of mentally gripping for answers.
    • #7) Noticing – Pay attention to what returns — sudden ideas, emotional shifts, coincidences, synchronicities, timing, relief, unexpected opportunities, little “winks,” or moments that feel quietly meaningful. Then continue the conversation and relationship over time.

📋Additional Daily Notes

Today was another one of those days that somehow managed to contain AI, Evie, Buddhism, haircuts, YouTube, black beans, pumpkin caramel shakes, Harry Potter donuts and a proposed Filipino karaoke lounge inside McDonald’s.

One practical question I need to settle is Evie’s voice. I’ve been using ElevenLabs, but I also own CloneVoiceAI, so why keep paying for something if I already own a tool capable of doing what I need?

Rather than experimenting immediately with Evie’s voice, I came up with a better test. I can record a minute or two of my own voice on my iPhone, clone myself in CloneVoiceAI, and then have the clone read something I never actually recorded. I can compare the original recording with the generated one and see how convincing it is.

If CloneVoiceAI can’t reproduce me convincingly, there isn’t much point moving on to Evie.

If it can, then I can do a proper CloneVoiceAI-versus-ElevenLabs Evie test using the same source material and the same script. Another important question is expressive control. ElevenLabs can interpret things such as whispers, pauses, laughter and other performance directions. I need to find out whether CloneVoiceAI—or perhaps one of the other AI tools I already own—can give me enough of that control for the Epic Story.

So Evie continues to evolve, but today I managed to keep the experimentation contained rather than disappearing into it for the entire day.

I also spent quite a bit of time today on my Shaolin.online training, working through the Noble Eightfold Path. There were questions about Right View, Right Intention, Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Right Effort and Right Mindfulness.

Some of them were much more personal than simply memorizing Buddhist terminology. What have I done wrong in the past, and what am I still doing wrong? What could I do better? What values do I want my actions to reflect? When is it better to speak—and when is it better to wait? Am I earning and living in a way that contributes something positive to the world? Where am I not being mindful?

One question asked where I tend not to be mindful, and eating was an obvious example. Sometimes I eat quickly, because something tastes good, or simply because food has become an activity in itself. I can also get so absorbed in an idea or project that I barely notice what is going on around me.

The idea of mindfulness is deceptively simple: actually be present for the life I am living while I am living it.

Eventually I made it through the written work and into some multiple-choice questions. The three categories of the Noble Eightfold Path are Prajna, Sila and Samadhi. “Right Possession” does not belong to the Eightfold Path. And when it comes to Right Speech, Buddha would apparently prefer that I speak kindly rather than loudly or quickly.

I think I got that one.

Food simplicity came up again today too.

I have a bag of dried black beans and wondered what the best way would be to prepare them. Then I started hearing about rinsing them, soaking them overnight, draining them, rinsing them again, boiling them, simmering them…

Man, that’s a lot of work for beans!

Then I remembered the Instant Pot.

Apparently I can simply rinse one cup of dried black beans, put them into the Instant Pot with three cups of water, pressure cook them for around 30 minutes, let the pressure release naturally for about 20 minutes, and see how they turn out.

No soaking required.

That sounds much more like it.

I think I’ll start with a one-cup test batch. If it works, this could fit perfectly with the extremely simple way of eating I’ve been thinking about: potatoes, beans, greens and water as the basic foundation, with simple seasonings to provide some variety.

The idea that keeps appealing to me is not merely finding another diet. It’s making food simple enough that it stops consuming so much attention. Maybe dinner doesn’t have to be the highlight of the day if I can fill the rest of my life with things that are more interesting.

I had one of those shakes myself today with a Triple O’s combo. Unfortunately, my burger seemed to have been attacked by someone wielding a bucket of sauce. There was so much on it that the thing was dripping everywhere while I tried to eat it.

The shake was considerably more successful.

This evening I headed over to the Tim Hortons on Guthrie and purchased their six-donut Harry Potter box (see photo to the right).

And there it was in all its glory when I opened the lid: colourful Harry Potter-themed donuts covered in yellow, green, blue and red-and-white toppings, accompanied by a couple of more conventional glazed creations.

So much for potatoes, beans and greens.

Apparently Hogwarts has temporarily intervened in the diet.

Guapo Rod waited on me again tonight, and I discovered that my nickname for him has now made it all the way to the Philippines.

Rod told me that he mentioned to his wife that I call him “Guapo Rod.”

She laughed!

Then our conversation took a more serious turn when I learned something I hadn’t known about him.

Rod hasn’t been home to the Philippines in eight years.

His wife and daughter are there.

Eight years!

I’m used to seeing Rod behind the counter, joking with him and calling him Guapo Rod, but learning that suddenly gave me a glimpse into a completely different part of his life. That is an awfully long time to be separated from your wife and daughter.

In a strange way, it connected back to some of what I had been working on in the Eightfold Path exercises earlier in the day. Every person I encounter has an entire life going on behind the tiny piece of them that I happen to see.

Later I stopped at McDonald’s.

Well…sort of.

The restaurant itself is currently closed for renovations, although the drive-thru remains open. I took a photo tonight showing the fencing, construction area and the big “OPEN during renovations” signs outside (see photo to the right).

Perhaps the new McDonald’s is going to have a secret lounge in the back where they serve Red Horse, the Filipino beer.

Of course, if there’s going to be Red Horse, they’re going to need a karaoke machine too.

Apparently the renovations are supposed to be finished September 25, so there’s another week before I can inspect the new place and determine whether the Red Horse Karaoke Lounge made the final cut.

I also came across a much more serious piece of local news today. The Comox Valley RCMP posted an update concerning the violent assault at a North Island College residence. According to the RCMP post I saw, charges have now been approved against a 21-year-old Burnaby man: one count of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

That was certainly a sobering contrast to the rest of the day.

Looking back tonight, I suppose today was really about experimenting with different ways of becoming.

The Shaolin work is asking me to look at how I actually live: how I think, speak, act, work, persevere and pay attention.

The ridiculously simple potatoes-and-beans idea is an experiment in taking something that has occupied far too much of my attention—food—and making it smaller.

Maybe Right Mindfulness really is the appropriate lesson for today.

Pay attention.

There is an awful lot of life hiding inside an ordinary Thursday.
