Daily Notes
The day opened quietly, but there was weight in the silence—not the kind I measure on the scale, but the invisible kind that sits between breaths. I stepped on the scale anyway, because that’s what I do. 301.2 lbs. Sixty-point-seven pounds gone since the beginning. I wrote it down like I always do, part ceremony, part accountability. Every tenth of a pound feels like an inch of ground reclaimed from a life that once felt lost to inertia.
After that came the sequence: Metamucil at 2:56 pm, the vitamins at 2:58, collagen at 2:59. The rhythm is like music now—small beats in a longer symphony. I used to think these routines were trivial, but lately I see them as proof that I’ve learned to keep promises to myself. The Dove Pro-Retinol cream went on this afternoon, smooth and cool. It’s not vanity; it’s gratitude. The body that’s carried me through all of this deserves to be treated kindly, even if I’m still learning how.
The dream from last night—“The Woman at Hatchmere and the Mirror”—stayed with me. She was there again, calm, patient, with that same half-smile that said, “You still don’t see yourself.” I kept replaying it while I moved through the day. I looked in the bathroom mirror and, for a split second, saw both things at once: the face she might have been seeing—the one learning to forgive himself for not being extraordinary. The dream wasn’t punishment; it was instruction.
Later I drove to Best Buy to pick up my new computer for my music studio. Purolator said it would be there; it wasn’t. A simple logistics error, but it landed harder than it should have. I walked back to the car thinking, Of course it isn’t here. Why would anything work out easily? By the time I got home, that thought had swollen into the old narrative: I’ve wasted 65 years. I’ve been good and it didn’t matter. Nobody cared. It’s astonishing how quickly despair can find its way back in, like water through cracks you thought you’d sealed.

Instead of heading home right away, I stopped at the Subway across from the Driftwood Mall. I ordered a 12″ chicken avocado sub—not the healthiest, but it felt grounding somehow. The air smelled of bread and disinfectant, and the fluorescent lights made everything too bright. I watched people come and go while I ate, and later, I pulled out my Amazon Fire tablet and watched a bit of Peacemaker (see photo to the right). I prefer the Subway next to Home Depot, but this one did its job. It was a place to sit, to be out in the world but not of it.
I didn’t plead with the Universe today. I didn’t ask for miracles. I just stayed present. And later that evening, back home, when I opened YouTube Studio out of habit, I saw it: the Squash Crisp Short had climbed past 700 views—more than triple its usual numbers. The same day I’d asked to be shown something unmistakable, something tangible, this appeared in the metrics of my work. Not lightning, not prophecy—just data, but data that spoke. The Universe, speaking fluent algorithm.
I cleaned the cutting-board area after that, not because it needed it but because I needed to. I did the small rituals—the ring touch, the cufflink adjustment, the calm smirk—not as superstition but as reminders: I’m still here, still moving forward, still the man who believes in Becoming even when it hurts.
As the evening settled, I felt something quieter than hope—maybe acceptance, maybe fatigue—but beneath it, a pulse of readiness. I read tonight’s invocation out loud:
“Tonight, as I sleep, I open myself to the Universe. Show me the next inspired action that is mine to take—clear, simple, unmistakable. And if there is something already in my life, right in front of me, that I have not yet seen—reveal it to me. What is meant for me cannot be lost.”
Maybe the sign has already come through pixels and percentages. Maybe tomorrow there’ll be another—a sentence overheard, a stranger’s kindness, a small coincidence with big intent. Either way, I’m lighter tonight—not just by sixty pounds of flesh, but by the faint, growing belief that I’m not invisible after all.
