Today felt like a movie that kept switching genres — part road trip comedy, part spiritual broadcast, part quiet revelation.

2025-10-11 - Candy Sticks

My son and I left Courtenay late morning, heading south through Nanaimo toward Oyster Bay, just north of Ladysmith. The plan was simple: a weekend to rest, swim, and reset at the Wyndham. We stopped off at the convenience store in Qualcomm Beach where I pointed out the little package of what they now call “Candy Sticks” (see photo to the left). I told my son that they used to be called “Candy Cigarettes” when I was young, and they were red on one end, to denote that they were lit by a match. I bought him a pack, and he really liked them, but exclaimed that they were quite hard. I also picked up a $2 Blackjack “Scratch & Win”, but alas, no winner…

Once at the hotel, as soon as we unpacked, my son announced that he didn’t have his swim trunks, so back in the car we went, up to Nanaimo to get some. Walmart had nothing, Winners had nothing. Finally, at Sport Chek, we found a pair — perfect fit, half off, $30 instead of $60. A little wink from the Universe I suppose. By the time we returned to Oyster Bay, the peaceful hotel had transformed into a hockey village. A tournament was in town — eight-year-olds everywhere!

We pivoted. Grabbed dinner at A&W — Teen Burger $4.99 specials, one for the boy, two for me — and then stopped by Save-On-Foods for supplies: paper plates, plastic forks, peanuts, cookies, potato salad, cinnamon rolls, blueberry muffins, and milk. Simple, comfort food provisions for the weekend.

Every half hour, we’d wander down to check the pool, but it was packed. It wasn’t until around 9:30 p.m. that it finally cleared out. The hockey families must’ve turned in early for their morning games. We slipped in quietly. My son went straight to the slide, racing up the stairs and laughing each time he hit the water. I slid into the jacuzzi and let the warmth erase the day. Thirty minutes of heaven.

That half hour felt like a parable of the whole day — and of everything I’ve been building lately. The Two Worlds idea came alive right there in the steam: the 3D world of lost trunks, noise, and frustration… and the 4D world of patience, timing, and inner calm. Same day. Two realities.

It’s the same principle behind the Neville Broadcast idea I’ve been shaping — a nightly short where a calm “newscaster” reframes the day’s chaos through the Law of Assumption. “Good day, it’s October 11, 2025,” he’d say, “today’s top headline…” and then turn fear into faith. It’s such a simple concept — but in a world addicted to panic, calmness itself becomes disruptive.

I realized today that it all ties together — the Body Whittle transformation, the AI Diet Plan, the Neville newscasts, even the crypto thoughts that popped into my head later tonight when I checked prices. Bitcoin down about eight percent in four days, Ethereum down six. If I were to invest $500, I’d probably split it — Bitcoin for stability, Ethereum for creativity. Same money, two worlds.

Everywhere I look lately, I see that pattern — outer noise vs. inner choice. Losing the trunks, finding them on sale. Crowded pool, then peace. Fear of money, faith in value. Reacting vs. assuming. One life, two interpretations.

By the time I finally left the jacuzzi tonight, I felt light — the kind of stillness that doesn’t depend on silence. Maybe that’s what Becoming really is: learning to inhabit the calm version of your own story, no matter how loud the outer one gets.

Tomorrow the hockey crowd will be gone during the day to the tournament. The pool will be quiet. But tonight, it doesn’t even matter — because I already found the quiet inside.
