    • #5) Asking – Ask first for emotional relief and inner calm, then ask for solutions, guidance, pop-ins, signs, opportunities, ideas, or small favors. Ask openly without demanding exact outcomes or trying to control how the answer arrives.
    • #6) Releasing – After asking, stop forcing. Go live your life. Walk, drive, work, brainstorm out loud, drink coffee, move through ordinary moments, and allow ideas or clarity to arise naturally instead of mentally gripping for answers.
    • #7) Noticing – Pay attention to what returns — sudden ideas, emotional shifts, coincidences, synchronicities, timing, relief, unexpected opportunities, little “winks,” or moments that feel quietly meaningful. Then continue the conversation and relationship over time.

📋Additional Daily Notes

Today turned into one of those days where a surprising number of unrelated things somehow connected. Health, food, weight loss, organizing the Barn Suite, HeartPOV, Evie, exercise, McDonald’s, Japanese sweet potatoes, Apocalypse Now—it was all in there. Underneath most of it, though, I think I was wrestling with the same basic question: How do I make the life I want easier to actually live?

One practical concern was the sore high on my inner leg. The doctor had told me it was essentially an injury caused by prolonged sitting, similar to the pressure injuries that can develop when people are bedridden. He prescribed an antibiotic but no cream, so I spent some time figuring out how I should protect the area. I ended up going to Shoppers Drug Mart and getting a bandage for it. The bigger lesson is obvious enough: medication and a dressing may help the wound heal, but I also need to address the pressure and sitting that contributed to it.

I also made some real progress on the Barn Suite organization project. I went through several storage boxes and started turning what had been a collection of mysterious boxes into an actual inventory. CV02 became clay modeling, art and craft supplies. CV03 became papers, journals and books. CV04 became general office and stationery supplies. CV05 became media—DVDs, CDs and cassette tapes. This is exactly why I built the Universal Planner in the first place: instead of vaguely thinking, I really need to organize this place, I can do one box, document it, and know that something measurable changed.

2026-10-05 - Cauliflower Rice Meal

Food occupied a lot of my thinking today. I made the giant cauliflower-rice bowl I had been planning: cauliflower rice, regular rice, egg whites, mushrooms, vegetables, tomatoes, KD cheese powder, soy sauce and seasonings (see photo to the right). And the verdict surprised me a little: it was actually quite good. The problem came later. I ended up at McDonald’s and ate a hamburger anyway. That made me realize that creating a nutritious meal I enjoy doesn’t necessarily solve the larger behavioral problem. McDonald’s is part of my routine. I go there for coffee, to work on projects, to get out of the house and to be around people. Any eating plan that pretends McDonald’s simply doesn’t exist is probably fighting my actual life rather than fitting into it.

That brought me back to Andrew Taylor and SpudFit. The thing about his potato experiment that keeps appealing to me isn’t some magical property of potatoes—it is the simplicity. Hungry? Eat potatoes. No complicated decisions. I remembered seeing Andrew eat a roasted Japanese sweet potato that a woman described as tasting like cake. Japanese sweet potatoes have that reddish-purple skin and pale flesh, and when they’re roasted properly they can apparently become extraordinarily sweet and almost dessert-like. Since Andrew allows sweet potatoes, this suddenly seemed potentially important.

Then I had another idea: perhaps the secret to keeping McDonald’s in my life while doing a potato diet is to bring my own potato treat with my coffee. A Japanese sweet-potato cake, muffin, brownie-like square or even simply beautifully roasted sweet-potato pieces could give me something I genuinely look forward to eating there. A little cinnamon and perhaps a small amount of maple syrup could make it feel like coffee and dessert rather than coffee while watching everybody else eat. The challenge isn’t merely creating something technically permitted. I want something good enough that I actually want to take it with me.

Of course, tonight I didn’t have any sweet potatoes. I did have oats, flour, almonds and raisins, which led to another possible experiment: little air-fryer oatmeal-raisin-almond cookies or muffins. Those obviously wouldn’t belong to a strict potato-only SpudFit experiment, but that raises another useful question. Am I trying to reproduce Andrew Taylor’s experiment perfectly, or am I trying to construct the simplest possible system that gets me successfully below 200 pounds? Those aren’t necessarily identical goals.

That led into thinking about what happens after 199.9. I wondered whether I should simply do the best I can to get below 200 and then begin something inspired by Jeff Bezos’s exercise routine. Bezos has described doing roughly 30 minutes of cardio and 45 minutes of resistance training, rotating through push, pull and leg days, with consistency and long-term mobility as major goals. I like the idea of 199.9 not being the finish line but the transition point: first remove the excess weight, then see what this body can become.

There is an important step before that, though. I’ve had those two frightening episodes where I temporarily couldn’t properly use one of my legs, and the doctor specifically recommended physiotherapy to help prevent it from happening again. He even said I could potentially follow physiotherapy videos on YouTube if I could motivate myself to do them consistently. With two knee replacements, however, I don’t want to randomly grab a generic leg workout and assume it is appropriate. This may become my pre-Bezos phase: appropriate physiotherapy, mobility and basic strengthening while the weight comes down, followed later by substantially more serious resistance and cardiovascular training.

I also spent some time tonight working on HeartPOV and the little 14-day project to build its first reader community. The next story teaser went live: “He Noticed What Everyone Else Missed.” It introduced a small moment between Mia and Eli without giving away the story—Mia turning her phone facedown whenever it lit up, and Eli noticing without asking. That project continues to move forward one deliberately small action at a time, which seems to be becoming something of a theme in my life.

Somewhere amid all this I started watching Apocalypse Now. That certainly changed the atmosphere. It isn’t exactly background comfort television. It feels much more like a descent into something increasingly strange and unsettling than a conventional war movie. I also spent some time thinking about A Course in Miracles and how different its philosophy is from the manifestation material I’ve spent so much time exploring. Instead of concentrating primarily on making circumstances conform to what I want, ACIM turns attention toward changing the perception that says my peace depends upon circumstances changing at all. That’s something I’ll probably have to chew on for a while.

Maybe that’s a fitting ending to today as well. I spent a lot of time trying to improve things—my diet, my body, my surroundings, my projects, even an artificial character. But perhaps the useful lesson running through all of it is simpler: make the next step easy enough to actually do. One box. One potato. One exercise. One post. One conversation.

Then do the next one tomorrow.
