📋Additional Daily Notes

Today became something unexpected. Not dramatic, not loud—just quietly structured. Day #1 of what I’m calling the “French Fry Diet.” You can see the ingredients in the photo to the right! The idea is simple: take the core principle behind eating one main food—like SpudFit—and apply it to something that feels more like fast food. French fries. Not deep-fried takeout, but air fryer fries. Keep it repetitive. Keep it controlled. See what happens over 30 days. Not just physically, but mentally. I had some this morning!
By mid-afternoon, around 3:51 pm, I was back at it—making another batch of fries in the air fryer. No debate. No “what should I eat?” Just the system doing its job. That moment stood out more than it should have. Not because it was exciting, but because it wasn’t. It was automatic. Hunger → fries → done. That’s the pattern I’m trying to build. Alongside that, I had a Cream Soda Zevia. Sweet, but no sugar. It fit inside the structure. Nothing broken. Just a controlled environment.
This afternoon I went to Tim Horton’s in Courtenay for a coffee. I had the YouTube show the “History of Civilization” running. One detail stuck with me—the civilization of Elam, in what is now Iran, being on the losing side of the first recorded war in history against Sumer around 2700 BCE. It’s interesting that one of the first things humans wrote down was conflict. But also interesting that losing that first war didn’t define Elam. They continued, fought again, became significant. It felt like a reminder that beginnings don’t determine endings.
At one point, I was sitting with my laptop open, a chessboard on the screen, game not started yet. That moment before the first move. Everything still possible. It felt like a mirror of the day itself. No results yet. No wins or losses. Just the decision to sit down and play. Same with the diet. Same with everything else.
I also found myself thinking about how technology shapes the world in unexpected ways—like how the name “Alexa” has basically disappeared for newborns because of Amazon’s device. A name that used to be common is now almost unusable. It’s strange how quickly meaning can shift.
Looking back on the day, nothing stands out as dramatic. No big turning point. But that might be the point. Fries in the air fryer. Zevia in hand. A number on the scale. A chessboard waiting for the first move. A quiet understanding of history, of future, of process.
If there’s a theme, it’s this: simplicity held. No upgrades. No detours. Just doing the same small things, cleanly.
And for Day #1, that feels like enough.
