📋Additional Daily Notes

Evening arrived quietly, and by dusk I found myself sitting once again inside Benino Italian Café & Gelato, one of those familiar Comox Valley spots that has slowly become part coffee shop, part thinking room, part unofficial office. Outside the large front windows the early evening sky had that pale winter blue tone that comes just before darkness settles in, and the parking lot lights were beginning to glow while traffic drifted past in an unhurried rhythm.

2026-03-03 - Prof. Jiang Xueqin

On the table in front of me was a large cappuccino with a thick layer of foam and a small cup of gelato — two scoops that had been offered as samples while I was deciding. One scoop was guava, tart and slightly sour with that bright tropical taste, while the other was PB&J, which leaned heavily toward the sweet side, creamy with hints of peanut butter and jelly swirling together. The contrast between the two was perfect: one refreshing and fruity, the other indulgent and dessert-like, with the cappuccino tying the whole thing together.

My tablet sat propped up on the table playing a video from Breaking Points, where a professor was making bold predictions about geopolitics, Iran, and the possibility of future conflict in the Middle East. It was one of those discussions that starts out as background noise but slowly pulls you in as the implications unfold. The idea being debated was whether tensions involving Iran could escalate into something larger and how that might affect the global balance of power.

Listening to that kind of conversation inevitably leads the mind toward the markets. If there were serious geopolitical disruptions — oil shocks, shipping problems, broader conflict — what would it mean for the **NVIDIA story that investors have been obsessing over lately? The modern stock market is so heavily concentrated in technology companies, especially those tied to artificial intelligence, that the bigger question right now seems to be less about war headlines and more about who wins and loses in the AI revolution.

That idea came up repeatedly in what I was reading and thinking about tonight: that even large geopolitical events sometimes struggle to displace the dominant narrative driving markets. In the present moment that narrative is still AI — data centers, GPUs, and the race to build the computing infrastructure of the future. Whether that story continues to dominate the next few years is something investors everywhere are quietly trying to figure out.

And so the evening passed in that familiar café rhythm: sipping cappuccino, sampling gelato, watching videos, and thinking about how the world’s biggest forces — geopolitics, technology, markets, and the unpredictable flow of history — somehow intersect with a quiet Tuesday night in a small café in the Comox Valley.
