📋Additional Daily Notes

I woke up late this morning, around 10:35 a.m., not really sure what I was going to do with the day. There had been a loose plan for us to go out to White Spot as a family, but that didn’t happen. Instead, I decided to go out on my own. I briefly thought about grabbing tacos, but I ended up downtown at Gladstone Brewing in Courtenay, where there’s a coffee shop area nearby. I sat down with an Americano and their nachos, which were a bit strange, honestly, but fine. I opened my laptop and watched part of a movie—The Suicide Squad, (see photo to the right). Nothing dramatic happened. I just sat there, ate, watched, and let myself be out in the world without trying to make it mean anything.

After that, rather than heading straight home, I went to Mudsharks. I ordered another Americano and one of their “chocolate bliss balls” (see photo to the left). I took a photo of the table—coffee, plate, laptop—and just stayed there for a bit. It felt calm. Settled. Ordinary in a way that didn’t feel empty.
While at Mudsharks I listened to Gene from the Neville Goddess channel. He talked about how reading As a Man Thinketh by James Allen led him to do affirmations for about 20 minutes a day—out loud, consistently—and how that practice seemed to change the trajectory of his life. He framed it like he was giving a lecture, teaching others what it had done for him. That stuck with me. Not as a magical promise, but as a practical framework: attention training, repetition, and consistency. Something constructive to focus on instead of spiraling.
I went home afterward and took a nap. Later in the evening, I went back out again, this time with a purpose. I took video of Christmas lights around town. I’m planning to make a video for Sunday about this strange, reflective time between Christmas and New Year’s—the pause between endings and beginnings. After filming, I stopped at Tim Hortons and McDonald’s, picked up food, and brought it home for the night.
By the evening, I realized I felt more optimistic than I had in a while. Not euphoric. Not certain. Just… open. Part of me went big, imagining money, freedom, charity work in the Philippines, travel, a life of joy and meaning. Another part of me recognized the danger in stacking too many hopes into one guaranteed future. I can feel both things at once now—the pull of vision and the need for grounding.
What stands out about today isn’t that anything extraordinary happened. It’s that the day didn’t collapse. Plans changed, and I adapted. I went out. I fed myself. I noticed people. I created something. I let hope exist without demanding it prove anything yet.
That feels like progress.
Not the kind that makes headlines.
The kind that makes tomorrow possible.
