    • #2) Honesty – Speak truthfully about what you actually feel — fear, loneliness, frustration, gratitude, confusion, hope, excitement, doubt, or exhaustion. Don’t perform spirituality. Just be real.
    • #3) Companionship – Treat them like companions walking beside you. Share little moments throughout the day: things you notice, appreciate, wonder about, or find beautiful or funny. Build relationship, not just requests.
    • #4) Meetings – Take a few moments each day to talk through your life with them — what’s ahead today, what you’re worried about, what you want, where you feel stuck, and where you’d appreciate support or clarity.
    • #5) Asking – Ask first for emotional relief and inner calm, then ask for solutions, guidance, pop-ins, signs, opportunities, ideas, or small favors. Ask openly without demanding exact outcomes or trying to control how the answer arrives.
    • #6) Releasing – After asking, stop forcing. Go live your life. Walk, drive, work, brainstorm out loud, drink coffee, move through ordinary moments, and allow ideas or clarity to arise naturally instead of mentally gripping for answers.
    • #7) Noticing – Pay attention to what returns — sudden ideas, emotional shifts, coincidences, synchronicities, timing, relief, unexpected opportunities, little “winks,” or moments that feel quietly meaningful. Then continue the conversation and relationship over time.

📋Additional Daily Notes

2026-08-20 - Sound Heritage

Today started off slow, but was soon to turn into an adventure. I couldn’t find any of The Guess Who albums locally, or even in Campbell River, but Nanaimo was another question and solution entirely…

So, at 1:08 p.m., I headed south toward Nanaimo. I had called Sound Heritage and discovered that they had two copies of The Guess Who’s American Woman. With my VIP Row 2 tickets to see Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings in Victoria on Tuesday night, I had suddenly gotten the idea of finding an old copy of American Woman and taking it with me in case I had an opportunity to get them to sign it (see photo to the right).

On the way down, I stopped at Jalapeños Mexican Food in Parksville and decided this could be my one meal off the diet. I had three hard-shell tacos along with Mexican rice, refried beans, chips and salsa. Famous last words: “one meal off the diet.”

Then it was onward to Nanaimo.

One of the pleasures of the trip was that I was listening to Neville Goddard and Abraham Hicks along the way. I had Neville’s Living in the End and other lectures playing as I drove, and I was still thinking about my desire for signs and “winks” from God or the Universe. I even imagined finding a toonie today—perhaps opening my car door somewhere and unexpectedly seeing one lying beside my foot. It wasn’t really about needing two dollars. It was about wanting that little feeling of being noticed: “I’m here. You’re not alone. Keep going.”

When I reached downtown Nanaimo, I even found a free two-hour parking space only about a block from Sound Heritage. Maybe not the toonie beside the car door, but I’ll take free downtown parking as a small victory!

I loved Sound Heritage. It was exactly the sort of old-fashioned record store I had hoped to find, and the trip paid off. Instead of buying one American Woman, I bought both copies. There were differences in condition, and rather than get home and discover I’d chosen the wrong one, I decided that at $15 and about $20, I could afford to bring both home and sort it out later.

Then I found something else I hadn’t expected: Wheatfield Soul. There were two versions in the store, including a later Pickwick issue for $35, but there was also an older Canadian Nimbus 9 copy for only $15. Wheatfield Soul dates from 1969 and contains “These Eyes,” while American Woman followed in 1970 with “American Woman,” “No Time” and “No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature.” Both come from that wonderful period when Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings were together in The Guess Who. So I walked out of Sound Heritage with three records: two copies of American Woman and the older Wheatfield Soul.

That photograph of me standing outside the store holding American Woman and Wheatfield Soul may end up being one of my favorite photographs from this little adventure. Hopefully, Tuesday night will add another chapter to the story.

I briefly stopped at The Vault nearby, a café I had visited on an earlier Nanaimo trip, but didn’t buy anything because I wanted to start making my way home. On the return trip, I stopped at the upstairs lounge at Quality Foods in Parksville. It’s surprisingly nice up there—comfortable chairs, tables, lots of room to sit with a laptop, and, unlike so many cafés around Courtenay, it stays open well into the evening. I had a coffee and enjoyed having somewhere comfortable to stop before continuing north.

But the most important thing I brought home from Nanaimo wasn’t actually a record.

Something happened in my thinking during all those hours of listening to Neville and Abraham on the highway. Three ideas suddenly came together, and tonight they feel like a genuine breakthrough. I’m calling them “The Three Trip To Nanaimo Breakthroughs“!

There was one other interesting Abraham/Hicks observation from the drive. Esther talked about Jerry Hicks finding an early version of Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich and comparing it with later versions. According to the story, some of Hill’s more metaphysical language involving vibration and related concepts had disappeared from later editions. Whether every detail of the story is historically correct or not, I found it fascinating because it suggests that some of the ideas I’m hearing from Neville and Abraham belong to a much older stream of thought than I sometimes realize.

Eventually I made it back to the Comox Valley, and my supposedly single “cheat meal” had by then developed ambitions of its own. Later I had an extremely saucy Osmow’s shawarma wrap. After that came McDonald’s: a cheeseburger, fries, ketchup and coffee. And because apparently Thursday hadn’t quite made its point yet, I finished with a Stroopwafel McFlurry.

By the end of the evening, I felt tired and bloated.

So much for a cheat meal!

On the way home I stopped at Superstore and bought two cauliflowers. Tomorrow’s plan is considerably less exotic: cauliflower in the air fryer with popcorn seasoning. Interestingly, after everything I ate today, that actually sounds pretty good.

Tonight I also watched more of Kung Fu, including “Sun and Cloud Shadow,” and thought about its themes of self-respect. Considering the dreams I started the day with, there was something strangely appropriate about that.

What a Thursday.

I began the morning dreaming about never being able to satisfy people and never receiving quite as much as somebody else. I spent the afternoon hunting down records from 1969 and 1970 made by two Canadian musicians I’m going to see from Row 2 in just a few days. I ate my way through Parksville, Nanaimo and the Comox Valley. And somewhere on the highway, with Neville and Abraham coming through the speakers, three ideas clicked together in a way they hadn’t before.

Maybe today’s biggest souvenir isn’t American Woman after all.

Maybe it’s this:

I don’t have to spend the rest of my life striving to earn happiness.

I can learn the feeling of being loved.

I can allow myself to want happiness.

And perhaps, instead of frantically searching for the life I think I’m missing, I can become still enough to begin experiencing the person I would be if I already knew that life was mine.

Feeling. Happiness. Stillness.

That’s what I’m bringing home from Nanaimo tonight.
