📋Additional Daily Notes

2026-02-20 - Bigfoot Donuts

Friday carried that comfortable, wandering rhythm that so many good days seem to develop on their own. Earlier in the afternoon, I found myself at Bigfoot Donuts, sitting beneath warm hanging lights with a toffee latte in front of me (see photo to the right). The café buzzed softly with conversation and movement and quiet pre-weekend energy. It was one of those familiar pauses where nothing particularly dramatic happens, yet the atmosphere itself feels like part of the experience.

Somewhere amid the calm of the coffee shop, my attention drifted to Olympic hockey — Canada advancing toward gold, the entire country once again leaning collectively toward the same storyline. Naturally, the question surfaced: would Sidney Crosby play? The reports, the deliberately vague “lower-body injury,” the speculation — all of it carried that curious mix of national drama and informational ambiguity that sports culture seems to thrive on. Even while sitting quietly with a latte, it’s remarkable how easily the mind connects to events unfolding far beyond the room.

After leaving Bigfoot Donuts, the day shifted into parent mode. I picked up my daughter and her friend from high school, the usual small choreography of timing and parking lots, and drove them back to the house. They settled in to work on a school project poster, the living room temporarily transforming into a workspace of paper, markers, and focused conversation. Watching that kind of quiet productivity has its own oddly calming effect — the sense of life simply proceeding through its expected motions.

At home, I kept things simple, eating a rice, cauliflower rice, and veggie combination before giving in to a short nap. That brief mid-afternoon sleep once again performed its familiar function — a soft reset, dividing the day into distinct mental chapters. There’s always a peculiar sensation upon waking, as though the day has subtly reconfigured itself while you were absent.

Later, I drifted toward one of my most predictable gravitational pulls: Benino’s. There, I settled in with a cappuccino, the warm interior and steady background noise recreating that reflective, observational state that coffee shops so reliably produce. The simple act of sitting with a hot drink, watching people move through their own small worlds, remains one of the most consistent pleasures of my routines.

And now, as the evening continues to unfold, it’s back into motion once again — heading out to pick up my daughter and her friend, driving her friend home, and seeing where the remainder of the night decides to go. Nothing extraordinary, nothing cinematic, just the quiet, ordinary sequence of places, small meals, coffee stops, and family logistics that somehow form the texture of a day.
