📋Additional Daily Notes

Today I stayed close to simplicity and follow-through. I wrapped a couple of small but meaningful things for my son and daughter. While I was at Costco earlier in the week, I’d picked up a Lamborghini model car for my son and a large box of chocolates and cookies for my daughter. This afternoon I wrapped them and used them as today’s Advent Calendar gifts.

Earlier in the day I spent time clarifying my food plan and confirming that tomorrow is the right moment to introduce potatoes and carrots. I reminded myself that this phase isn’t about variety or treats, but about predictability and stability. I also decided to hold off on the flavored sparkling water and the non-alcoholic beer I picked up at Costco, recognizing that even small digestive variables aren’t worth muddying the signal right now. Water and black coffee are still enough.

2025-12-14 - Milano Coffee

In the afternoon I went down the road to Milano Coffee (see photo to the right). Instead of trying to turn the outing into something symbolic, I simply chose the place that felt easiest to say yes to. While I was there, a man next to me was writing longhand in a journal. That stood out, since most people in coffee shops are on screens. I told him I didn’t know exactly what he was working on, but that it looked impressive. He said he does art and writes about things and is self-taught. I joked that it looked like he might be writing a screenplay, maybe something like Quentin Tarantino. He lit up and seemed genuinely happy to be noticed and encouraged. It was a brief interaction, but it felt human and unforced.

I also spent time today dealing with the technical side of my first movie review on the AlreadyBecoming channel. The Dances With Wolves video went live, and as expected, it triggered a copyright claim due to the movie playing on my laptop screen in the background. I reminded myself that this wasn’t a strike and didn’t affect my channel. Still, I chose to clean it up properly by increasing the blur and then recognizing that blur alone wasn’t enough. The solution became clear: crop and blur the screen area so the film is implied rather than shown. It felt good to move from uncertainty to a clear rule I can use going forward, without drama or escalation.

In the evening, the whole family piled into the van and went for a drive around Courtenay and Comox to look at Christmas lights. We stopped at Wendy’s first because my son wanted fries and a chocolate Frosty. After that, we checked out the newly opened Tim Hortons nearby for the first time. The guy working there told me they’d only been open since last Tuesday.

It was another rainy Sunday, but it felt steady rather than heavy. I stayed with the plan, reduced unnecessary variables, followed things through, and let the day be ordinary in a good way. Quiet progress, small connections, and fewer decisions — which, right now, feels exactly right.
