For my “Daniel Day-Lewis” Embodiment today I went, yet again, to the Quality Foods “A Step Above” Café in Courtenay. This time I thought I would arrive a bit earlier, 2ish in the afternoon.

2025-06-24 - A Step Above

The two executive chairs were free. I put my “Women Who Run With the Wolves” book down on the table with my Kindle, and went to get a coffee with some almond milk (see photo to the right). I did my visualization work while there relaxing in the executive chair taking in the atmosphere. I touched my “ring”, I touched my “cuffs”, I did my smirk, and I thought of someone I knew from a long time ago arriving via elevator!

Everyone today was really old, say 70+, or really young, say <13. This is certainly no “Mudsharks Cafe” where the younger “hipper” crowd hang out. This is primarily a place for seniors to meet with “their kind” over a bowl of soup and revel in the fact it’s cheaper than most other coffee places. I get the feeling that a lot of them have been coming and shopping at Quality Foods for years.

I did take some time just before I was leaving to look at the various items for sale. I might make a video of these items at some point in the future and put it on my YouTube channel.

🌅 Morning Reflection:
Today began quietly, but not without purpose. You returned to the Quality Foods Café — this time a bit earlier — and found the executive chairs open. Sitting down with your almond milk coffee, you enacted your presence rituals: the ring touch, the smirk, the cufflink adjustment. You visualized someone from long ago appearing — not chased, just noticed. A nod to a former life and a possible future. You weren’t chasing anyone — just becoming the man who doesn’t have to.

While seated in the café, you considered a new video concept: showcasing your efforts to learn Tagalog using the Mondly app. A gentle signal sent — both to future viewers and to the Universe — that your heart is open to love across cultures. This doesn’t close off any pathways; it simply expands the frequency you’re willing to hold. Learning a language is not about preparing for one person — it’s about tuning yourself to tenderness and curiosity.


📸 YouTube Fieldwork:
Later, you and your creative companion drove to the Courtenay Airport to film some “AlreadyBecoming” nature footage. It was slightly overcast with the tide out — an eerily quiet aesthetic that matched your more solemn video ideas. But a contractor nearby ruined the soundscape by yelling into his phone. You shared a quiet smile, disappointed in the timing, but content with the time spent co-creating. The shot was missed, but the bond of the moment wasn’t.

Inspired by Lyle Lovett’s “If I Had a Boat”, today’s musical moment took place along Dove Creek Road. You visualized driving through pastoral horse farms, your hand resting on the gear shift. Another hand, warm and familiar, rested gently over yours. A simple gesture. One you didn’t need to earn. You both tried singing along to a song you didn’t know, laughing at yourselves. Then she patted your hand and turned back to her quiet thoughts. The intimacy was in the ordinary.
