    • #2) Honesty – Speak truthfully about what you actually feel — fear, loneliness, frustration, gratitude, confusion, hope, excitement, doubt, or exhaustion. Don’t perform spirituality. Just be real.
    • #3) Companionship – Treat them like companions walking beside you. Share little moments throughout the day: things you notice, appreciate, wonder about, or find beautiful or funny. Build relationship, not just requests.
    • #4) Meetings – Take a few moments each day to talk through your life with them — what’s ahead today, what you’re worried about, what you want, where you feel stuck, and where you’d appreciate support or clarity.
    • #5) Asking – Ask first for emotional relief and inner calm, then ask for solutions, guidance, pop-ins, signs, opportunities, ideas, or small favors. Ask openly without demanding exact outcomes or trying to control how the answer arrives.
    • #6) Releasing – After asking, stop forcing. Go live your life. Walk, drive, work, brainstorm out loud, drink coffee, move through ordinary moments, and allow ideas or clarity to arise naturally instead of mentally gripping for answers.
    • #7) Noticing – Pay attention to what returns — sudden ideas, emotional shifts, coincidences, synchronicities, timing, relief, unexpected opportunities, little “winks,” or moments that feel quietly meaningful. Then continue the conversation and relationship over time.

📋Additional Daily Notes

A lot of today started with Becoming Fit. I’ve been thinking seriously about what I might actually be capable of accomplishing over the next two years. I’m 66 years old and somewhere around 340 pounds right now. But what if, by 68, I’m around 199 pounds? Not merely thinner, but actually fit—strong, mobile and muscular. What could that version of me realistically look like?

Jeff Bezos has become an interesting reference point for me. Not because I want to literally look like Jeff Bezos, but because he’s an older guy who very visibly transformed his body. He’s talked about working with a personal trainer, doing cardio and resistance training, and having someone there who pushes him beyond what he might choose to do himself. That got me thinking that perhaps, somewhere along this Becoming Fit journey, a good personal trainer should become part of my plan too.

With my age and two knee replacements, I certainly don’t need somebody standing over me screaming, “ONE MORE REP!” while destroying what’s left of my mobility. What I could eventually use is somebody knowledgeable who understands older bodies, knee replacements and progressive strength training—someone who can meet me where I actually am and gradually help me become stronger.

But thinking about losing something like 140 pounds raised another question: What in the world is my stomach going to look like afterward?

We created a few realistic visual approximations. The first was almost suspiciously good. There was hardly any loose skin at all. I immediately questioned it because I’ve seen people who’ve lost huge amounts of weight, and often there is considerable loose skin left around the abdomen.

So we tried again.

This time we deliberately looked at a much more realistic loose-skin possibility: a fit 68-year-old man at approximately 199 pounds after previously weighing around 340. The fat was largely gone and there was visible muscle underneath, but the lower abdomen had quite a bit of sagging, wrinkled skin.

Okay. What do you do about that?

It turns out that if it’s genuinely a large amount of redundant skin, there isn’t a magic exercise that makes it disappear. Building muscle could dramatically improve the body underneath it, and some skin may tighten naturally, but a significant hanging fold of skin is essentially a surgical problem if I ever decide that I want it removed.

That took us into panniculectomies, tummy tucks, extended abdominoplasties and post-weight-loss body contouring. Then I asked what any of this might cost.

In Canada, we’re potentially talking somewhere in the neighborhood of $15,000 to $25,000 Canadian or more, depending upon what was actually required.

Naturally, my next thought was: Philippines?

And yes, the difference could potentially be enormous. Similar surgery there might cost considerably less. But that opened another discussion about whether I’d actually want major surgery performed overseas. The conclusion was that there are excellent surgeons in both countries; the much bigger questions would be the individual surgeon, hospital, anesthesiologist, experience with massive-weight-loss patients, follow-up care and what happens if something goes wrong.

If I simply flew to the Philippines, had a cheap tummy tuck and jumped on a plane home shortly afterward, that would not appeal to me at all. If someday I were already spending an extended period there, found an exceptional surgeon at a major hospital, and could remain there throughout the recovery period, that would be an entirely different situation.

Eventually I asked the question underneath all the other questions:

Would I actually have the surgery?

Maybe.

If 68-year-old me has lost 140 pounds, is healthy and strong, has maintained the weight, and has a big apron of loose skin that bothers him, causes problems or prevents him from enjoying the body he worked so hard to create, then I can absolutely imagine getting it removed.

Well I need to: Create him first.

I really like that thought.

I don’t need to solve loose skin at 340 pounds. I don’t need to choose a plastic surgeon. I don’t need to decide between Vancouver and Manila. I don’t even know what my skin will actually look like.

2026-10-13 - No Ketchup

Lose the weight. Build the strength. Become fit. Then look in the mirror and decide what, if anything, remains to be done.

Somewhere in the middle of all this I was at McDonald’s, having my usual coffee, and somehow ketchup entered the evening’s proceedings too. Of course it did. They were out of the self-serve so I had to be content with packets (see photo to the right).

Then there was also the lottery.

The previous morning I had awakened from an extraordinarily vivid dream in which I had won $60 million. It stuck with me. I recorded it in my Nighttime Whispers and in my journal, and later I bought lottery tickets.

Tuesday night I was sitting at McDonald’s drinking coffee knowing that the Lotto Max draw had already taken place somewhere out there. The jackpot was enormous. I had my ticket.

Universe, if this is the next step for me, let’s do it.

Eventually Wednesday morning arrived and the results became available.

Nobody won the giant Lotto Max jackpot.

No Lotto Max win for me!

And strangely, I wasn’t devastated. The dream was still an interesting dream. Buying the ticket had been fun. Sitting at McDonald’s wondering what if? had been fun. For a few hours there was a giant unopened possibility sitting in my pocket.

Then we opened it.

Not this one.

But here’s the funny little ending to Tuesday’s story.

When I photographed the losing Lotto Max ticket, sitting right beside it was another ticket.

Lotto 6/49.

Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

Tonight.

There’s a Gold Ball number attached to it and Extra as well.

So one possibility closed during the night while another remained unopened.

And perhaps that’s why this entire bizarre conversation actually hangs together better than it initially appears.

My future body is unopened.

199 pounds is unopened.

Ten chin-ups are unopened.

The possibility of working with a trainer is unopened.

What my stomach looks like after losing the weight is unopened.

Whether I ever need surgery is unopened.

Whatever adventures someday await me in Canada, the Philippines or somewhere I haven’t even imagined yet are unopened.

And tonight’s Lotto 6/49 ticket is quite literally unopened.

I don’t have to know how any of those stories end this morning.

There’s only one story I actually have some control over.

Becoming Fit.

No starting over. No waiting for the perfect Monday. No demanding that I transform myself overnight. No deciding that yesterday ruined today.

Just continue becoming.

And maybe, two years from now, I’ll grab that chin-up bar, pull myself up for number ten, lower myself to the floor, turn around and smile.

“That seems like another lifetime.”

I’d really like to meet that guy.
