2026-02-18 - Bookcase

I have my bookcase ready now, in the “L” shaped design (see photo to the left), but I think the straight configuration would look better and make better use of the space, so I will change it when I get time.

Today turned into one of those strangely memorable days built almost entirely from small inconveniences. What should have been a simple coffee run gradually evolved into a minor adventure around Comox, complete with multiple passes by Benino’s and the quiet optimism that a latte was inevitably waiting at the end of the loop.

Somewhere between dropping off my daughter and heading back out, the evening shifted. Standing in the parking lot, pockets checked and rechecked, the uncomfortable realization arrived: no keys. The irony was immediate and undeniable — the Camry had started without complaint, which meant the keys had to be inside the car. Yet as daylight faded, logic did little to reduce the irritation of not being able to actually see them.

The solution felt mildly absurd but necessary. Back home, retrieve the spare set, replay the entire sequence, retrace the steps. And then, as these stories so often conclude, the discovery: the missing keys resting quietly under the driver’s seat, having never truly been lost at all. Relief mixed with amusement, the emotional swing disproportionate to the scale of the problem.

By that point, however, momentum had dissolved. The clock had advanced, the window for a relaxed café visit had narrowed, and the once-compelling idea of a Benino’s latte simply no longer carried the same pull. The destination hadn’t changed, but the moment had.

So the evening resolved itself in a far less dramatic way. No café. No coffee. Just a meal prepared at home and the small, practical consolation of money not spent. Nothing extraordinary occurred, yet the day carried that familiar reminder of how easily plans bend, dissolve, and reorganize themselves without any real catastrophe.

In the end, it felt like a very human day — mild frustration, simple problem-solving, quiet humor, and the gentle recognition that not every intention needs to be fulfilled to feel complete. Sometimes the story is simply the detour itself.
