📋Additional Daily Notes

2025-12-20 - Smittys

This afternoon I went to Smitty’s for their Big Breakfast. Nothing fancy — just one of those familiar, dependable places where you can sit for a while without being rushed. I took a booth, ordered, and let myself slow down.

While I was there, I watched a bit of Alison Coghlan’s YouTube channel (see photo to the right). Her tone is calm, conversational, thoughtful — not trying to sell certainty, just exploring ideas honestly. It felt like good company. The kind of voice that doesn’t push, but invites you to think alongside it.

It was sitting there, halfway through breakfast, that the question about Jim Carrey really surfaced for me.

I’ve heard his manifestation stories many times — the bike, the check, the certainty he speaks about — but today they landed differently. I wasn’t watching them for inspiration or motivation. I was watching them with a quieter question underneath: Why does this seem to work for him and not for me? And more importantly, what are we actually misunderstanding about these stories?

The realization that came wasn’t discouraging — it was grounding. Jim Carrey didn’t manifest his life by believing harder than everyone else. He lived inside extreme uncertainty, relentless rejection, and public failure for years. The belief didn’t replace action; it helped him endure it. The story we hear now is told after success, cleaned up by time and meaning. That doesn’t make it false — but it does make it incomplete.

What struck me most was recognizing that I’m wired differently. I’m more reflective, more careful, less willing to override doubt with intensity. That doesn’t mean I’m broken or blocked. It means the path that works for me can’t rely on magical thinking or self-coercion. It has to be built on steadiness, sequencing, and contact with reality at a dose I can actually live with.

After breakfast, the rest of the day unfolded in a quieter way. I thought about timing — why some advice helps at one moment and harms at another. Why stabilizing my body and nervous system comes before putting myself out into the world. Why trying to force outcomes too early has always cost me more than it’s given.

There were ordinary moments too. A question about movie ratings. A memory about Mississauga and where Pentax used to be near Markland Drive. Small, practical thoughts that reminded me that life doesn’t need to be dramatic to be meaningful.

By the end of the day, I noticed something important: I wasn’t trying to fix myself. I wasn’t chasing proof. I wasn’t asking the universe for a sign. I was just letting the pieces line up — calmly, honestly, without pressure.

Sitting in that booth at Smitty’s turned out to be the pivot point. Not because anything miraculous happened, but because I asked the right question from the right state of mind.

Tonight, that feels like progress.
