📋Additional Daily Notes

Today began with me waking up in the early hours of Friday, December 5th, dealing with the ongoing knee pain that hit me suddenly after a nap yesterday. I noted that I had managed to get through the night, but the pain remained significant, especially when trying to walk or straighten my leg, and I started thinking I might need to go to urgent care or the emergency room. I reflected on how strange it was to go to sleep feeling fine, shift my position in the night, and wake up barely able to walk. I mentioned that I couldn’t fully bend or straighten my knee, that it felt swollen, unstable, and painful, though mostly tolerable while sitting or lying down. I even heard clicking when moving it.

I asked what weight surgeons expect for knee operations, because part of me worried that my weight would complicate things, given that I’ve been around 307 pounds. I then jokingly considered whether I should just stop losing weight because this injury happened at a time when I have been making progress. I also asked whether I could use stairs by just relying on the good leg, since my right knee feels fine. All of this reinforced how suddenly vulnerable I felt physically, after months of making positive changes.

2025-12-05 - Instant Pot Spaghetti

With my sore leg I needed a bit of “comfort food” today so I made some spaghetti in the Instant Pot (see photo to the right).

Later I shared a Facebook exchange with Kate Anne from a Neville group. She had been reflecting on surrender, present moment acceptance, and reconciling Eckhart Tolle with Neville Goddard. I responded to her about the paradox of living in the end while accepting the present circumstance, and how surrender doesn’t mean resignation, but a shift in identification. At one point she replied that what I said helped her regain balance after something difficult in her life, and I caught myself wondering if she might somehow be a “bridge of incidents.”

From there, I shifted into diet talk. I noted that when I began the AI Diet on May 21st, 2025, I weighed 340.6 pounds, with my lowest point being 290.3 pounds on August 9th. I acknowledged that while the diet worked extremely well, it was difficult to resume after falling off, mostly because of boredom, cravings, and the absence of satisfying foods. I started thinking about creating an improved version, or AI Diet 2.0, built around sustainability so I don’t feel trapped or deprived. I also wanted to reduce hydration from a gallon per day to two liters, because the bathroom interruptions were excessive. I suggested adding homemade hummus, lentils for dosa, apples with Splenda as a sweet option, and possibly chickpea crackers or snacks for crunch. I also asked whether Greek yogurt could be incorporated carefully as a dip, and whether oat creamer with coffee might be doable without triggering binge behavior. We ultimately agreed to test it for 30 days to see what happens. At the same time I removed canned salmon from the diet because it’s calorie dense and easy to overeat.

Later in the day I began craving cookies and listed ingredients I had on hand. I ended up exploring simple recipes using oats, applesauce, PB2, and air fryer methods to make something low-calorie, satisfying, and safe. I didn’t want to trigger addictive eating, but I still wanted something enjoyable, and I considered using spelt flour or regular flour in small amounts. I went through several recipe ideas, including PB2 oat cookies, spelt cookies, and even a chocolate chip hybrid, but with an emphasis on moderation and portion control.

Toward the end of the night, I asked for a short paragraph summarizing the likely diagnosis of my knee issue so I could explain it to others. The summary described it as a soft tissue strain or inflammatory flare around a prosthetic knee, not a meniscus tear, because prosthetic knees have no meniscus. It explained how this kind of flare is common, can happen during sleep from small movements, and is likely to recover in a few weeks with conservative care.

Looking back, the day felt like a strange blend of vulnerability and practicality. I dealt with a sudden injury, tried to understand it, and planned next steps, all while trying to maintain control over my diet and body. I also drifted into some philosophical and interpersonal reflections, including noticing how people sometimes show up at the right time. In the end, it was a day of managing setbacks, integrating lessons, and continuing to build systems that help me move forward, rather than collapse when something unexpected happens.
