I was thinking about going to Bulk Barn today to get some “Candy Sticks” for my son and other treats for the kids’ Advent calendars, but on the way there I realized Dollarama was closer and would probably have enough anyway. So I went there instead and picked up a bunch of small chocolates: Toblerone, Ferrero Rocher, little chocolate Santas, a mix of things so the kids could open something sweet pretty much every day of December. There was something oddly satisfying about putting intention into little treats like that, something low-effort but still meaningful.

2025-12-04 - FREE Coffee Coupon

After Dollarama and before picking my son up from school, I stopped at McDonald’s and used one of my coupons to get a free coffee (see photo to the right). I sat for a bit and filmed the coffee and the atmosphere around me, thinking maybe it could become a contemplative long video for Sunday, built around the idea of something simple and cheap being woven into a moment of presence. I also took some video of The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, thinking it could become a separate piece somewhere down the line. It felt like the kind of day where I was collecting fragments rather than finishing anything.

I lay down for a nap this afternoon and felt fine when I did. But when I woke up and stood up, my left leg was stiff and sore, and the pain got progressively worse over the evening. It reached a point where I couldn’t put weight on it at all. It’s strange to go from being completely fine to barely able to stand just because I laid down for an hour. I vaguely remembered shifting uncomfortably while sleeping, half-aware of it, but whatever it was, the aftermath was brutal. The idea of going back into another surgery, especially with two replaced knees already, felt like way too much. I even considered going to the emergency room at one point, which tells me how bad it really was.

We subscribed to Disney Plus again, and I’ve been watching McCartney 3,2,1, the series where Paul McCartney talks with Rick Rubin about music and the Beatles. There are six episodes and I’ve watched three. It’s genuinely interesting hearing him talk about song structure, and how casually they approached things back then, not knowing how monumental it would become. Watching it put me in a reflective mood. I found myself thinking about meaning, timing, collaboration, and how much of creativity happens by accident rather than design.

By the end of the night, the pain in my leg hadn’t improved. I still couldn’t put weight on it. It’s unsettling to realize how fragile the body can be, that one bad position in sleep can take away your mobility. I don’t know what tomorrow will look like, and that uncertainty just added to the heaviness of the day. I guess all I can do is sleep again, hope the knee is better, and try again tomorrow.
