Daily Notes
This afternoon, I found myself once again chasing shade, caffeine, and some form of quiet presence in the Comox Valley. It was later than usual — that hour where the day still holds heat, but you can feel it slowly beginning to shift. I set out in search of a café that was open, not quite sure where I’d end up. I’ve done this enough times to know that the real destination isn’t always the coffee — it’s the stillness, the signal, the space to remember who I am.

Several spots were closed or closing. I did a few drive-bys. I drove past the Coffee Love Bug, but there seemed to be only stools inside, or the patio. I then went to the Tin Town Cafe, but it’s closed for a couple of weeks (I think the owners went on vacation). I therefore went to a reliable standby in downtown Courtenay, Mudsharks! I parked at the library, stepped in, and settled near the window. I didn’t feel rushed. I wasn’t searching. But I was noticing.
At Mudsharks I got the usual, Americano with almond milk. I joked with the barista that I knew her favorite food item, and I was RIGHT! Bliss Balls (see photo to the right)! They looked delicious! Another barista came by my table and we talked about what a “Mudshark” actually was, and the history of the cafe.
While at Mudsharks I had Artistly create a photo of Evie based on Chapter #2 of the book! Not too bad!
On the drive home I passed a small bench sitting alone at the corner of an intersection — not in a park, not near a trail — just there. Odd and quietly poetic. I snapped a photo of it. I don’t know why. Poetic And as I drove away, I realized how rare it is to truly be with yourself without numbing or rushing. I didn’t find a Toonie, but I found a bench. And maybe that was the day’s real offering — a seat in the present, waiting for no one, yet ready for everything.
RE: Day #0082 – (Thursday, July 24, 2025) – “The Bliss Ball & The Bench”
What I Did:
I set out mid-afternoon in search of an open café — my usual sacred routine of chasing caffeine, coolness, and signal. Love Bug Café was too bare inside. Tin Town Café was closed for vacation. Eventually, I landed at the ever-reliable Mudsharks. I parked at the library and made my way in, unhurried. I ordered an Americano with almond milk and chatted with the barista about her favorite treat — Bliss Balls — which I guessed correctly. Another barista and I shared a curious exchange about the origin of the name “Mudsharks.” While there, I created a new Artistly image of Evie inspired by Chapter #2 of the novel. On the drive home, I passed a random bench alone at an intersection — poetic, unclaimed. I stopped, took a photo, and felt something… quiet.
What Happened:
I completed nearly all of my Final 25-Day ToDo tasks — including the stillness meditation, subliminal audio, visualization, ring whisper, YouTube Shorts video release, Philippines research, and “Echo Flow” music (“Fade Into You”). I also touched base with my spiritual resolve around waiting, anchoring deeper into trust.
How I Felt:
Emotionally grounded, though with occasional restlessness. Sitting still in the meditation was difficult — perhaps the hardest of the seven rituals. There was a subtle peace underneath it all.
Notes / Synchronicities:
- The café I landed at served Bliss Balls, a symbolic nod to the “sweetness” that arrives when I stop chasing.
- The bench felt like a signal — a place that holds space without grasping.
- The Artistly-generated Evie image based on Chapter #2 helped tether something visual and visceral.
- No Toonie again, but I didn’t need it today.
