- 001. Potato Only Diet Challenge – Day 1 of 366 – What, Why, How?! (2026-06-20-Sat, 2024-08-16-Fri)
- Andrew Taylor of Spud Fit explains that he began a year-long potato diet after reaching his heaviest weight and realizing that food had become an unhealthy obsession in his life. Rather than focusing primarily on weight loss, he wanted to simplify eating, break his dependence on food, reduce decision fatigue, and free up mental space for more meaningful pursuits. His plan was to get nearly all of his calories from potatoes, prepared without oil and flavored only with simple seasonings and sauces, because potatoes are inexpensive, nutritious, filling, and have historically sustained entire populations. He viewed the challenge as an experiment in both physical and mental health, hoping that by removing food as a constant focus, he could create room for personal growth and positive change while proving that a simple, plant-based diet can be both practical and healthy. 🥔
- 002. Potato Only Diet Challenge Day 2 of 366 – what I ate today. (2026-06-21-Sun, 2024-08-17-Sat)
- On Day 2 of his potato-only challenge, Andrew Taylor reported feeling surprisingly good and said he wasn’t craving any other foods or feeling deprived in any way. Despite eating nothing but potatoes—prepared as breakfast potatoes with barbecue sauce, a large baked potato with sea salt, pepper, and sweet chili sauce while out in Melbourne, shredded potatoes with chili and capsicum at a restaurant, and mashed potatoes topped with a vegan dukkah spice blend for dinner—he enjoyed everything he ate and felt satisfied throughout the day. He noted that his stomach and digestive system felt lighter than usual, even though he wasn’t particularly hungry and didn’t eat breakfast until after 10 a.m. The overall tone of the video was positive and optimistic, with Andrew emphasizing that the simplicity of the diet was working well so far and that he genuinely did not feel like he was missing any other kind of food. 🥔
- 003. Spud Fit 2016 – day 29 (2026-06-22-Mon, 2024-08-18-Sun)
- After 29 days of eating only potatoes, Andrew Taylor reported that he was surprised by how much he still enjoyed the diet and had not become sick of potatoes as he expected. Without counting calories, he simply ate when hungry and had lost 10.2 kg (22.5 lbs), though he emphasized that weight loss was never the primary goal—the real purpose of the Spud Fit experiment was to improve his relationship with food and break unhealthy eating patterns. His early blood tests were mostly positive, and while he hadn’t exercised as much as he wanted due to moving house and family responsibilities, he had recently resumed daily scooter rides as low-impact training. When asked how he dealt with seeing other people eat tempting foods, Andrew explained that cravings are often driven by fear of missing out, and he reminds himself that giving in to a temptation means missing out on the experience and results of completing his larger goal. For him, the key lesson is that every choice involves a trade-off: you can have the immediate pleasure of the tempting food, or you can continue building toward the person you want to become.
- 004. Spud Fit Challenge 2016 – day 30 – Spud Fit cooking show! (2026-06-23-Tue, 2024-08-19-Mon)
- After 30 days of his potato-only challenge, Andrew Taylor filmed the first episode of his “Spud Fit Cooking Show” and demonstrated how he makes a giant potato rosti. He grated about two kilograms of potatoes, drained off some of the liquid, mixed in sweet potato flour, onion powder, garlic powder, and nutritional yeast flakes, then cooked the mixture in a non-stick pan without oil. Along the way he emphasized that he doesn’t count calories or carefully measure portions—he simply eats until he’s no longer hungry. With help from his wife Mandy, he showed how to flip the large rosti using a plate, then finished it with a little sriracha sauce. The finished dish was a success, which he described as delicious. More than a cooking lesson, the video reinforced one of the core themes of his potato experiment: simple, inexpensive, satisfying food can be enjoyable, sustainable, and require far less complexity than most people assume.
- 005. Spud Fit Challenge – day 31 – South Melbourne Markets (2026-06-24-Wed, 2024-08-20-Tue)
- Andrew Taylor takes a trip with Mandy and Teddy to the South Melbourne Market to see if he can find better potato prices than the supermarkets and local organic stores he normally shops at. After navigating the busy market, he finds an excellent deal on regular potatoes—5 kilograms for just $3—and purchases nearly 3 kilograms of sweet potatoes at $3 per kilogram. For a total of about $11, he leaves with almost 8 kilograms of potatoes, enough food for roughly two days on his potato-based eating plan. Throughout the video, Andrew’s focus isn’t on dieting trends or nutrition theories but on the practicality, affordability, and simplicity of eating whole foods. His main message is that healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive, and that potatoes remain one of the most economical and satisfying foods available. 🥔
- 006. Spud Fit Challenge day 32 – no more binge eating! (2026-06-25-Thu, 2024-08-21-Wed)
- After 32 days on his potato-only diet, Andrew says one of the biggest surprises has been that he no longer feels the urge to binge or overeat. He believes this is because his relationship with food has shifted from seeking pleasure and comfort to simply fueling his body. While he still enjoys his potato meals, they aren’t so intensely delicious that they trigger cravings to keep eating, allowing him to naturally stop when he begins to feel full. Unlike his old eating habits, where highly palatable foods often led him to eat until he was uncomfortably stuffed, potatoes satisfy his hunger without overstimulating his appetite. He hopes that after a full year of practicing this way of eating, he’ll be able to enjoy a wider variety of foods while maintaining the same healthy ability to stop when he’s had enough.
- 007. Spud Fit challenge – day 34 – Today I went VIRAL! (2026-06-26-Fri, 2024-08-22-Thu)
- Andrew Taylor discusses the intense media attention surrounding his year-long potato diet, responding to critics who claim he will become deficient in protein, iron, and fiber by explaining that potatoes provide complete protein, ample iron, and plenty of fiber when eaten in sufficient quantities. He stresses that the experiment is a personal effort to overcome food addiction—not a fad diet he recommends others follow—and notes that he is doing it under medical supervision. News clips highlight that after just one month he has already lost 10–13 kg (22–29 lbs), has more energy, and is sleeping better, while dietitians continue to express concerns about relying on a single food group. Reflecting on the coverage, Andrew praises the reporters who interviewed him but feels some of his responses were edited out, making him appear more extreme than he intended. He concludes by thanking viewers for their support, expressing appreciation for the encouragement he has received, and committing to continue documenting his journey to see where the experiment leads.
- 008. Spud Fit challenge – Day 35 – Facing fears and going viral. (ps. I’m sorry for swearing) (2026-06-27-Sat, 2024-08-23-Fri)
- Andrew reflects on the overwhelming global attention his potato diet has received, admitting he is exhausted after days of nonstop media interviews and struggling to understand why so many people care. He explains that before starting his YouTube channel, he was hesitant to publicly share his struggles with food addiction and binge eating, fearing ridicule and judgment, but ultimately decided that being honest and vulnerable was more important than worrying about what others might think. During the video, he catches himself using an inappropriate word, sincerely apologizes after his wife points it out, and uses the moment to reinforce his message: if people choose to mock someone’s vulnerability, that reflects on them rather than the person being open. He concludes by encouraging others not to be afraid to share their true thoughts and feelings, saying that embracing vulnerability has ultimately changed his life for the better.
- 009. Spud Fit Challenge – day 36 – Weigh in day and Sunrise TV at our house! (2026-06-28-Sun, 2024-08-24-Sat)
- On Day 36, Andrew Taylor shares a difficult but encouraging update, explaining that after several sleepless nights caused by the sudden media attention surrounding his potato-only diet, he accidentally missed scheduled BBC and Irish radio interviews and felt terrible about letting people down. Despite expecting stress and lack of sleep to stall his progress, he was delighted to discover he had lost another 900 grams, bringing his total weight loss to about 14 kilograms. He then shares what he considers his best television interview so far—a live appearance on Australia’s Sunrise—where he explains that his experiment is really about overcoming food addiction rather than losing weight, describing how he chose potatoes because they are the most nutritionally complete single food he could find. Supported by his wife Mandy, who believes his all-or-nothing personality makes this approach well suited to him, Andrew answers the hosts’ questions with humor, reflects on the advantages of live interviews because they can’t be edited, apologizes for his amateur video editing, and ends the day optimistic, grateful, and looking forward to catching up on sleep and completing more media interviews.
- 010. Spud Fit challenge – day 37 – Spud Fit Fitness Show! (2026-06-29-Mon, 2024-08-25-Sun)
- After an intense week of media interviews following his growing popularity, Andrew says life is finally beginning to settle down. He managed to get a full night’s sleep for the first time in days, admits he hasn’t exercised all week because of his media commitments, and is excited to get back outside on his scooter along Melbourne’s beautiful beachfront. Inspired by his love of fitness as well as potatoes, he jokingly launches the first episode of the “Spud Fit Fitness Show,” explaining that the best exercise is simply the one you genuinely enjoy. For him, that means scootering while listening to audiobooks—currently Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone narrated by Stephen Fry, whose storytelling makes long exercise sessions feel effortless. His advice is to pair an enjoyable activity, such as walking, cycling, running, or scootering, with a great audiobook or podcast so that exercise becomes something you look forward to rather than a chore. Looking ahead, he mentions upcoming interviews with Swedish student radio and American doctors while reflecting that it has been the strangest and most exciting week of his life. He encourages everyone to get outside, find a form of movement they enjoy, and have fun staying active.
- 011. Spud Fit challenge – day 38 – my potato sponsor!! (2026-06-30-Tue, 2024-08-26-Mon)
- Paul visits a local fruit and vegetable store after receiving an unexpected message from Brendan, who generously offers to donate all of Paul’s potatoes for an entire year to support his potato-based diet. Grateful and surprised, Paul tours the century-old family business, admiring the fresh produce while joking that although he can’t eat the fruit right now, he still enjoys looking at it. Brendan shows him different varieties of potatoes, including Dutch creams, sweet potatoes, and white chats, discussing which are best for mashing or roasting. Paul shares that he has been eating large amounts of sweet potatoes and white chats as part of his diet and mentions that a television news crew had recently visited his home. The visit ends with Brendan reiterating his offer to supply whatever potatoes Paul needs, and Paul thanks Brendan and his colleague Elliot for their remarkable generosity, expressing hope that their support will help him stay healthy throughout the year.
- 012. Spud Fit challenge day 40 – Paul Henry TV and Dr. McDougal news!! (2026-07-01-Wed, 2024-08-27-Tue)
- Andrew reflects on a major day in his Spud Fit Challenge, beginning with a live interview on New Zealand’s Paul Henry Show, where he explained that his potato-only diet is really about overcoming food addiction by making eating simple and shifting his emotional fulfillment toward other areas of life. The day’s biggest surprise came when he learned he would appear on the American TV show The Doctors, and that, at his suggestion, Dr. John McDougall would join him. Andrew is thrilled that his personal experiment has grown into an opportunity to introduce one of his biggest nutritional influences to a worldwide audience, calling it one of the proudest moments of his journey so far.
- 013. Spud Fit Challenge day 41 – MY rules (2026-07-02-Thu, 2024-08-28-Wed)
- Andrew explains that his potato challenge is based on his own personal rules, not something everyone should blindly copy. His first rule is to do your own research, make informed decisions, and ideally have medical supervision rather than following someone on YouTube. His second rule is to eat only white potatoes, sweet potatoes, fat-free herbs, spices, sauces, and a little soy milk for mashed potatoes, avoiding all oils and high-fat foods. His third rule is to eat as much as you want, whenever you want, without counting calories or obsessing over nutrients. He also recommends joining the supportive Potato Cleanse Diet Facebook group run by High Carb Hannah and Derek Howlett, and adds that anyone following the diet for more than a few months should take a vitamin B12 supplement.
- 014. Spud Fit Challenge day 42 – My Argument Against Moderation. (2026-07-03-Fri, 2024-08-29-Thu)
- Andrew argues that the advice to “eat everything in moderation” is often meaningless for people with serious food addiction. He compares food addiction to alcoholism, drug addiction, and gambling, saying that society would never tell an alcoholic to drink “just one beer” or a heroin addict to use drugs in moderation, yet it routinely gives that advice to people who struggle with overeating. From his perspective, moderation has repeatedly failed him, so he is experimenting with complete abstinence from the foods that trigger his addiction, just as other addicts often quit cold turkey. He also argues that extraordinary results rarely come from moderation, pointing to people like Roger Federer, Tiger Woods, and Mozart, who achieved excellence through intense dedication rather than doing things “in moderation.” His goal is not to be moderately healthy but to achieve the best health possible, and he believes that requires an unconventional approach. While acknowledging that moderation works for many people, he concludes that it does not work for everyone and believes those with severe food addiction should be open to trying a different strategy rather than automatically accepting conventional advice.
- 015. Spud Fit Challenge day 46 – Baked Kipfler potatoes. (2026-07-04-Sat, 2024-08-30-Fri)
- Andrew from Spud Fit visits a local fruit and vegetable market and introduces Kip potatoes, jokingly calling them “ugly food” and encouraging people to embrace imperfect produce instead of worrying about eating “clean.” He gives the potatoes a quick scrub, pierces them with a fork, and bakes them at 180°C (fan oven) for about 55–60 minutes, until the skins are wrinkled and the insides are soft. After baking, he keeps the meal extremely simple by seasoning the potatoes with a little garlic chili salt and tomato sauce, explaining that his philosophy is to make healthy eating as easy and sustainable as possible. Throughout the video, he humorously banters with his wife, emphasizes that elaborate recipes aren’t necessary for success, and encourages viewers to keep healthy eating simple and enjoyable.
- 016. Spud Fit challenge day 50 – Weigh in day and trusting the process (2026-07-05-Sun, 2024-08-31-Sat)
- On Day 50 of his Spud Fit challenge, Andrew Taylor celebrates losing 17 kg (37.5 lbs) but emphasizes that weight loss is only a side effect—his real goal is overcoming food addiction and binge eating. He explains that he no longer feels compelled to binge and believes his success comes from thoroughly researching nutrition before he began, allowing him to trust the process instead of constantly worrying about food. His advice is to answer all of your questions before starting, then keep the diet simple, stop obsessing over food, eat when you’re hungry, stop when you’re full, and use the mental energy you save to focus on the rest of your life.
- 017. Spud Fit Challenge day 53 – What I Ate Today. (2026-07-06-Mon, 2024-09-01-Sun)
- The video is a practical “day in the life” look at Andrew’s simple potato-based eating plan. He explains that people constantly ask exactly what he eats, so he documents an entire day of meals. Breakfast is a potato cake made by frying leftover mashed potatoes in a non-stick pan with a little sriracha. Lunch is reheated mashed potatoes seasoned with onion powder, garlic powder, vegan chicken-style stock powder, nutritional yeast, and a small amount of soy milk. Later he eats another potato cake, and dinner consists of baked sweet potatoes with a little sweet chili sauce after an evening training ride. Throughout the video he emphasizes that there is nothing complicated about his approach: he cooks large batches, keeps meals simple and repetitive, eats potatoes whenever he’s hungry, stops when he’s full, doesn’t count calories, and trusts his body’s hunger signals. He also notes that anyone following a long-term potato or vegan diet should supplement with vitamin B12. His overall message is to stop overthinking nutrition, keep it simple, enjoy potatoes, exercise when possible, and focus on consistency rather than perfection.
- 018. Spud Fit Challenge day 55 – Oh no, I’m going to DIE!! What should I do?! (2026-07-07-Tue, 2024-09-02-Mon)
- Andrew says he finally read comments about his potato-only diet and found many people confidently predicting protein deficiency, malnutrition, vitamin C deficiency, addiction to potatoes, or even death. He mocks the panic by pointing out that he has medical supervision, blood tests, and a simple backup plan: if something goes wrong, he can just eat other foods. His main point is that critics are reacting to headlines without thinking logically, while he is on day 55, feeling great, and enjoying the experiment.
- 019. Spud Fit Challenge day 57 – weigh in day & why a whole year?! (2026-07-08-Wed, 2024-09-03-Tue)
- Andrew shared his Day 57 update from his year-long potato journey, reporting another 1.6 kg (3.5 lb) loss for a total of 18.6 kg (41 lb) in just 57 days, bringing his weight to 133.5 kg (294 lb). Although pleased with the progress, he emphasized that weight loss is not his primary goal; rather, his focus is changing his relationship with food. He explained that he originally considered doing the potato diet for only two months, but with New Year’s approaching, he decided to commit to an entire year, inspired by people who had completed extraordinary long-term challenges, such as running a marathon every day for a year or remaining completely silent for a year. He believes setting a firm one-year end date is crucial because, in the past, he abandoned diets as soon as he felt “in control,” only to relapse. By committing to a fixed finish line, he hopes to prevent that cycle from repeating. He closed by saying he feels energetic, is exercising regularly, and is grateful that everything is going well, while also announcing that his appearance on The Doctors would air on March 3 in the United States.
- 020. Spud Fit Challenge day 58 – How To Beat Cravings (2026-07-09-Thu, 2024-09-04-Wed)
- The speaker explains that overcoming cravings isn’t about willpower or permanently giving up favorite foods—it’s about changing the order in which you eat. His strategy is simple: whenever he craves chocolate, pizza, ice cream, or other treats, he gives himself permission to have them after first eating as many potatoes as he wants until he’s completely full. In every case, once he was satisfied with nutritious food, the craving disappeared. He believes this approach works best with healthy, filling diets where you can eat until you’re satisfied, rather than restrictive plans that leave you hungry. His key message is to acknowledge cravings instead of fighting them, satisfy your hunger with healthy food first, and then honestly reassess whether you still want the treat.
- 021. Spud Fit Challenge day 59 – A Poem for Level Headedness and Mental Strength. (2026-07-10-Fri, 2024-09-05-Thu)
- On Day 59 of his Spud Fit challenge, Andrew Taylor explains that one of the most valuable tools supporting his journey isn’t just eating potatoes—it’s strengthening his mindset. He shares that he reads Rudyard Kipling’s famous poem “If—” once or twice a day, especially in the morning or during stressful moments, because it helps him stay calm, resilient, humble, and focused. The poem reminds him to keep perspective through success and failure, persevere through hardship, and maintain integrity regardless of circumstances. He says reading it gives him shivers every time and has become an important daily practice for developing his “mental game,” encouraging viewers to read it themselves if they want to build greater mental strength.
- 022. Spud Fit Challenge day 61 – Irish TV! (2026-07-11-Sat, 2024-09-06-Fri)
- In this Day 61 update, Andrew Taylor experiments with using a bike headlight as a makeshift studio light before sharing a clip of his appearance on Ireland’s Today Show, where he explains the motivation behind his year-long potato diet. He tells the hosts he began the challenge after recognizing his food addiction and wanted to simplify eating by choosing a nutritious but intentionally boring food. At the time of the interview, he had lost 17 kg (about 37 lbs.) in 55 days, was eating around 20 kg of potatoes per week, supplementing only with vitamin B12 and a little soy milk, and reported feeling healthier, more energetic, mentally sharper, and sleeping better. Despite skepticism about such a restrictive diet, Andrew defends his research and notes that potatoes have historically sustained entire populations, including the Irish. After the interview, he says he enjoyed the lighthearted discussion, mentions an upcoming appearance on The Doctors, and announces the launch of his new website, spud.ca, which includes a FAQ to help manage the growing number of questions and emails he receives from supporters.
- 023. Spud Fit Challenge day 62 – Decision Fatigue. (2026-07-12-Sun, 2024-09-07-Sat)
- Andrew explains the concept of decision fatigue—the idea that people have a limited capacity to make good decisions each day, so the more decisions they make, the harder it becomes to make wise ones later. During his Spud Fit Challenge, eating only potatoes has eliminated countless daily food decisions, freeing up mental energy and making it easier to stay on track while also improving decision-making in other areas of life. He cites examples such as Albert Einstein, Barack Obama, and even the Buddha, who simplified aspects of their daily routines—like wearing the same clothes—to conserve mental energy for more important choices. His takeaway is that simplifying repetitive decisions, especially around food, can reduce stress, improve self-control, and create more mental space for the things that truly matter.
- 024. Spud Fit Challenge day 63 – The Doctors TV with Dr McDougal!! (2026-07-13-Mon, 2024-09-09-Mon)
- Andrew (Spud Fit) shares his excitement about appearing on the U.S. TV show The Doctors, where he discussed his year-long potato-only diet alongside renowned physician Dr. John McDougall. On the show, Andrew explained that after 43 days on the diet he had lost 16 kg (over 35 lbs.), felt energetic, and ate only plain potatoes with minimal seasonings and no added fat. Dr. McDougall defended potatoes as a nutritionally complete staple, citing historical populations and scientific research showing people can remain healthy on an all-potato diet for extended periods. Although the show’s hosts ultimately recommended a balanced diet of natural foods rather than any extreme eating plan, they acknowledged Andrew’s positive results under medical supervision. Reflecting afterward, Andrew said he was pleased the discussion was open-minded and respectful, but noted that the program focused mainly on weight loss, whereas his real goal has always been overcoming food addiction and changing his relationship with food, with the weight loss being a welcome side effect.
- 025. Spud Fit Challenge day 64 – Weigh in day!! (2026-07-14-Tue, 2024-09-10-Tue)
- Andrew Taylor shares another enthusiastic weekly weigh-in, joking that he’s saying “woohoo” too often because he’s genuinely excited by his progress. Despite riding through the rain, he recalls a Dutch saying—”We’re not made of sugar”—as motivation to keep training regardless of the weather. This week he lost another 2.6 kg (about 5.7 lbs.), bringing his total weight loss for the year to 21.2 kg (nearly 47 lbs.), but emphasizes that his real goal has never been weight loss itself. Instead, he focuses on overcoming food addiction by eating potatoes and letting the weight take care of itself. He also begins tracking his resting heart rate, averaging 54 beats per minute, increases his daily endurance training from 90 minutes to as much as 2 hours without any loss of energy, and credits potatoes with fueling his workouts. Overall, he reports feeling healthier than ever, experiencing no negatives, and is delighted with his continued progress.
- 026. Spud Fit Challenge day 65 – Rethinking a “Balanced” Diet (2026-07-15-Wed, 2024-09-11-Wed)
- Andrew responds to a common question about whether eating mostly potatoes can really be considered a “balanced diet.” He argues that the true purpose of a balanced diet is not to eat a wide variety of foods, but to obtain all the essential nutrients the body needs—including adequate protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. In his view, if a person’s food choices provide complete nutrition, then the diet is balanced regardless of how many different foods are included. He explains that his SpudFit diet consists of a variety of regular and sweet potatoes, small amounts of soy milk, and minimal fat-free condiments, herbs, and spices, and he believes this combination supplies the nutrients needed to remain healthy. He concludes that the success of the diet should ultimately be judged by health outcomes rather than by the number of different foods consumed.
- 027. Spud Fit Challenge day 69 – Success is Inevitable. (2026-07-16-Thu, 2024-09-12-Thu)
- Andrew begins by explaining why he hasn’t posted for a few days: he unexpectedly accepted a new job after originally planning to be a stay-at-home dad, then shares a lighthearted story about the “I Love Mandy” singlet he surprised everyone with during his wedding reception. He then reflects on a major mindset shift in his weight-loss journey, explaining that for the first time success feels inevitable rather than uncertain. In the past, losing weight seemed like climbing an impossible mountain, but now he believes that with a solid plan, clear rules, and consistent daily action, the outcome is no longer in doubt. Instead of obsessing over the goal, he focuses on staying on the path, believing that if he follows his plan without wavering, success will naturally follow. He concludes that this principle applies to any worthwhile goal in life and leaves viewers with a new personal motto: approach your goals with conviction, courage, and confidence, stay the course, and the results become a foregone conclusion.
- 028. Spud Fit Challenge day 70 – Mandy’s Breakfast Salad. (2026-07-17-Fri, 2024-09-13-Fri)
- In this lighthearted “Mandy Mondays” episode, Andrew Taylor’s wife Mandy explains that although she hasn’t followed Andrew’s all-potato diet, she’s gained weight while he’s lost it, inspiring her to create a more flexible “potato displacement diet.” Instead of eating only potatoes, she replaces less healthy foods with potatoes to stay fuller while still enjoying a variety of vegetables. She demonstrates a hearty breakfast salad made with boiled potatoes, spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic, red onion, herbs, spices, lemon juice, and optional tempeh cooked with liquid smoke for a bacon-like flavor—all prepared with virtually no added oil. Throughout the video, Mandy and Andrew joke about her lack of cooking skills, her nonstop talking, and the improvised nature of the show, giving it a warm, humorous feel. In the end, Mandy tastes the finished dish, declares it “really yum,” and encourages viewers to try this healthy, satisfying, potato-centered meal as an easy way to improve their diet without committing to eating only potatoes.
- 029. Spud Fit Challenge day 71 – Weigh in Day & Date Night!! (2026-07-18-Sat, 2024-09-14-Sat)
- Andrew Taylor (Spud Fit) records a casual weigh-in update while out on a rare date night with Mandy, seeing a friend’s band. For the first time since starting his potato-only challenge, he didn’t lose weight, gaining 0.1 kg, but he isn’t concerned because his primary goal is overcoming food addiction, with weight loss being secondary. Quoting Rudyard Kipling’s If—, he says he wants to treat both weight loss and weight gain the same rather than allowing the scale to dictate his emotions. What matters is that he successfully completed another week eating only potatoes, feels great, is happy, and believes things are moving in the right direction. Mandy points out a tangible sign of his progress: one of his shirts has become so oversized and baggy that she made him change before going out. The video ends with live music and a conversation with a friend who tells Andrew that his Spud Fit videos about fear of starvation, food envy, and fear of missing out have genuinely helped change his relationship with food.
- 030. Spud Fit Challenge day 72 – It’s not about weight loss… or is it? (2026-07-19-Sun, 2024-09-15-Sun)
- Andrew Taylor reflects on a weekly weigh-in where he gained just 0.1 kg (100 grams). Although he admits feeling a little disappointed after consistently losing weight, he reminds himself that his year-long potato experiment is primarily about gaining control over his food addiction, not chasing the number on the scale. His strategy is to simplify eating as much as possible—using potatoes as the main food—so he can learn to view food more as fuel rather than pleasure, comfort, or emotional support. He acknowledges that underneath it all he does want to lose weight, become healthier, and get fitter, but believes those results should come naturally if he focuses on the real process: changing his relationship with food and controlling the addiction. His resolve remains strong despite the small gain, and he accepts that weight will fluctuate from week to week. His central message is: focus on the process—controlling food addiction and sticking to the plan—and let weight loss, health, fitness, and happiness become the byproducts.
- 031. Spud Fit Challenge day 73 – Minced Potato Curry (2026-07-20-Mon, 2024-09-16-Mon)
- Andrew (“Spud Fit”) experiments with a new potato-based recipe inspired by a viewer’s suggestion to use finely chopped potatoes in place of ground meat. Instead of tacos, he turns the idea into a potato curry, pulsing potatoes into a mince-like texture and cooking them with curry powder, garlic powder, onion powder, a little water, maple syrup, and finally a small amount of salt added at the end to maximize flavor while using less sodium. Throughout the video, he and Mandy joke back and forth while discussing kitchen gadgets, cooking, and health. Andrew also explains why he believes a whole-food, plant-based diet supports long-term brain health and may help reduce dementia risk, mentioning turmeric as one evidence-backed ingredient he likes to include. The finished curry is declared a success—simple, inexpensive, filling, and surprisingly delicious—with Andrew encouraging viewers to try it themselves.
- 032. Spud Fit Challenge day 74 – Mandy’s random veggie stew (2026-07-21-Tue, 2024-09-22-Sun)
- Andrew opens the video by joking that his wife Mandy is trying to take over his YouTube channel after she films a cooking segment on her own. Mandy then demonstrates how she makes a simple vegetable stew from leftover vegetables in the fridge, explaining that she prefers savory breakfasts and improvises with ingredients like garlic, eggplant, onion, capsicum, cauliflower, corn, peas, spinach, lentils, smoked paprika, herbs, and vegetable stock. She recommends serving the stew over mashed potatoes (or with potatoes cooked directly into it), adding lemon juice and fresh parsley at the end, and emphasizes that it’s a filling, nutritious, low-calorie meal that can be eaten freely without worrying about weight gain. Andrew closes by joking about Mandy’s “solo cooking show,” encouraging viewers to comment, subscribe, and share the channel.
- 033. Spud Fit Challenge day 78 – Weigh in day! This week I weighed in every day… (2026-07-22-Wed, 2024-09-25-Wed)
- Andrew Taylor reports a big week on his potato diet: after gaining 0.1 kg the previous week, he experimented with weighing himself every morning under the same conditions and was surprised by how dramatically his weight fluctuated day to day. His weight dropped as low as 126.6 kg before finishing the week at 127.5 kg, a 3.3 kg (about 7.3 lb) weekly loss. After 78 days, he says he has lost 24.4 kg (over 50 lb) from his starting weight of about 151 kg and has broken through the 130 kg barrier. His main lesson is that even consistent morning weigh-ins don’t produce a smooth downward line—weight naturally rises and falls. More importantly, he stresses that the real goal isn’t the scale but staying in control of his food addiction, managing cravings, eating potatoes, and doing the internal work needed to maintain the change.
- Spud Fit Chalenge day 92 – weigh in day AND blood testing! (2026-07-23-Thu)
- After three months of eating only potatoes, Andrew had his second blood test of the year and will review the results the following week. At his weigh-in, he was exactly 123 kg, bringing his total loss to 28.7 kg (over 60 lbs) in three months—roughly 10 kg per month. He lost another 1.5 kg this week and noted that although his daily weight fluctuates, the overall trend continues steadily downward. Interestingly, increased exercise hasn’t noticeably accelerated his weight loss, leading him to believe his diet is doing most of the work. Three months in, he says his cravings are completely under control: he isn’t bored with potatoes, jealous of other people’s food, or tempted to quit. He feels mentally and physically healthy, his fitness is improving, and he remains happy and confident with the experiment.
- Spud Fit Challenge day 95 – Mexican Chopped Chats (2026-07-24-Fri)
- Andrew shares an extremely simple leftover potato fry-up: roast chat potatoes at 180°C for about 50 minutes, refrigerate any leftovers, then cut them into quarters and put them in a hot pan. Season with onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, and a little hickory liquid smoke, then stir and cook for about 10 minutes until they begin to crisp. Serve with tomato sauce. He finishes by showing the boxes of sweet and white potatoes he picked up from Tessero and Luca Brothers in Balaclava and thanking the shop for supporting him.
- Spud Fit Challenge day 96 – Dinner With Friends (2026-07-25-Sat)
- Andrew attended a Melbourne vegan social dinner with about 45 people and showed that sticking to his all-potato diet doesn’t mean missing out on social events. Before going, he checked the restaurant’s menu, noticed they served potatoes, and simply asked if the chef could prepare plain steamed potatoes instead. The restaurant happily accommodated his request, serving him steamed potatoes with chili sauce while everyone else enjoyed their meals. He emphasized that most restaurants are willing to customize dishes if you politely explain your needs, encouraging people not to avoid dining out while pursuing health goals. Beyond the food, he had a wonderful evening meeting supportive friends, enjoying great conversations, and reinforcing that a healthy lifestyle can still include an active and enjoyable social life.
- Spud Fit Challenge day 97 – I can finally SEE changes! (2026-07-26-Sun)
- Andrew heads out for a scooter ride on Beach Road despite the pouring rain, joking that he’s “not made of sugar” and won’t melt. He says the potato diet continues to go extremely well: he feels lighter and fitter, his waist has shrunk, his clothes are looser, he’s enjoying potatoes, and—most importantly—he feels increasingly in control of his food addiction without urges to binge or eat unhealthy foods. The big breakthrough came that morning when, for the first time all year, he looked at his naked body in the mirror and could actually see that he was getting thinner. Although he still isn’t happy with his appearance, he describes himself as “happier”—finally seeing with his own eyes the progress that the scale, measurements, clothing, and other people had already been showing him. He considers it an important and encouraging milestone and is now looking forward to his blood-test results and next weigh-in on Friday.
- Spud Fit Challenge day 98 – Love your body, really?! (2026-07-27-Mon)
- On Day 98 of his Spud Fit journey, Andrew Taylor is nervous about receiving his blood-test results the next day—especially because an Australian TV crew from The Project will film the moment—but says he feels so good physically that he’d be skeptical of unexpectedly bad results. His main reflection is about the advice to “love your body.” He says that may work for others, but it doesn’t resonate with him because his overweight body cannot yet do what he wants: move athletically, compete, and perform at a high physical level. Rather than forcing himself to love how his body currently looks or functions, he believes in accepting reality honestly and doing something about it. With before-and-after underwear photos potentially being shown to millions on television, he draws strength from Rudyard Kipling’s If—, particularly the idea of treating “Triumph and Disaster” the same. His conclusion is that you don’t necessarily have to love your current body—you need to stop hiding from reality, accept where you are, confront it head-on, and work to change it.
- Spud Fit Challenge day 99 – BLOOD TEST RESULTS & weigh in day & filming for The Project. (2026-07-28-Tue)
- Andrew Taylor celebrates dropping below 120 kg (119.6 kg) after losing 32.1 kg—about 71 lb—in roughly three months on his potato-only diet, although he stresses that overcoming food addiction, rather than weight loss, is his main goal. His blood tests were remarkably positive: cholesterol dropped from 4.3 to 2.9 mmol/L, LDL was 1.4, blood sugar was excellent despite his extremely high-carb diet, and his protein, liver function, folate, iron and hemoglobin-related results were all good; only uric acid and homocysteine were somewhat elevated, which his doctor wasn’t concerned about given his rapid weight loss. A crew from Australian TV’s The Project spent the day filming him at the doctor’s office, cooking and eating potatoes at home, exercising by the beach and buying potatoes, and Andrew plans another blood test in two months to ensure everything continues going well.
- Spud Fit Challenge Day 99 (bonus video!) – Mandy Monday CHEESE SAUCE SUBSTITUTE YAY! (2026-07-29-Wed)
- Mandy makes a healthy, oil-free “cheesy” sauce as a way to incorporate more potatoes into her diet. She boils three potatoes and a large carrot, water-fries leek and onion, blends everything together, then seasons it with vegan chicken-flavoured stock, paprika, and optional nutritional yeast. Andrew explains that this isn’t part of his strict potato-only diet, but rather Mandy’s more flexible approach. Mandy also says that after gaining about 8 kg while living in Australia’s hot Northern Territory, she’s been eating potatoes more frequently as convenient snacks and has lost about 3 kg in roughly a week. The sauce turns out much better than she expected—she calls it “really, really good” and possibly the best thing she’s ever made.
