Welcome to another <Newly-Minted> Day. Here comes item #1 on my “ToDo List”: (You can use these symbols: ☐✅).
Soup Diet… Day #001 (4/14–>50%=Win!) (<290 Today??? – No)
So I’m going to start this next month with a new format and see how it goes. I’ve been doing primarily lists for the past few years, but I thought I would try something different…
The main goal is to: get back to <290 lbs.
I’m still going to have “ToDo” Lists at heart, but this time I’m going to couch these “ToDo” items in paragraphs to provide a narrative on what needs to be done. In doing so, hopefully I will get myself into the mood of getting things done. The goal is to complete the “ToDo” items in the paragraphs no matter what each day, with a lot of regular “ToDo” items to follow these paragraphs if I happen to feel extra “energetic” and want to get more done. Ready? Here goes…
To start off each day, record my weight as I have been doing so far:
- ✅ #01: 📈 Weigh yourself! (361.9 lbs. – 321.7 lbs. = 40.2 lbs. total weight loss.)
- ✅ #02: 📉 Record Weight Down in Title!
- ✅ #03: 😴 Record any Nighttime Whispers! (None!)
The main go for the next month or so is to focus more on my health and getting back down to <290.0 lbs., which I did do last August, but have gone up considerably since then. I need to put the benefits of losing weight at the forefront of my mind:
- To simply feel better.
- To be able to walk faster.
- Walking in Philippines.
- Shins.
- Prolong Knees.
To do this I will be going back to the basics, and initially adopting Andrew Taylor’s SpudFit diet, of only potatoes and condiments for the next month. This can/will include both regular and sweet potatoes, almond milk, “sugar” included condiments but “without fat”, tea, coffee, Zevia, 0% alcohol beer, and water.

📋Additional Daily Notes

Today started the way a lot of “real life” days start — with good intentions and then a sudden detour into indulgence. In the wee hours of the morning I set up what was, honestly, a smart and future-me-friendly move: I put ground beef and vegetables into the Instant Pot and ran it in slow cooker mode so it would be ready later as a healthy meal (see photo to the right). That was the kind of decision that feels like Becoming — planning ahead, building structure, taking care of myself before the day even really begins.
And then… I went to A&W. And then Tim Hortons. Breakfast and donuts. No grand justification. Not my best plan, but it happened. After that I came home and slept, and I didn’t just nap — I slept hard. I slept and slept and slept until late afternoon, the kind of sleep that feels like the body cashing in a debt. I woke up in that foggy, disoriented way where you don’t quite know what time it is, only that the day has moved on without you.
But even with the slow start, something important surfaced today — a really fascinating insight about attraction, memory, and “the ones who got away.” I found myself watching recipe videos on YouTube again — the Allrecipes style content — and there’s a cook/host named Nicole McLaughlin who has this oddly magnetic presence. I’d watched dozens of her videos and couldn’t fully understand why I was drawn to her. And then the penny dropped: she reminded me of Brenda from AC.
Tonight I went out to Benino’s for coffee a little after 7:30 p.m. A minor comedy of timing: they’d already cleaned the cappuccino machine, so I got charged for a cappuccino but was handed brewed coffee. No big deal, just one of those small-town moments. Then at 8:00 my daughter texted and asked if I wanted to go for a drive, so I went out with her. That ended up being one of the best parts of the day — simple, human, present. The kind of thing that anchors life even when my mind is off roaming in the past.
When I got home, I realized I’d basically eaten nothing since the big breakfast this morning. So around 9 p.m. I finally had my first real meal: cabbage soup. The stuff I’d been slow-cooking all day. It was mostly cabbage, chicken broth, and vegetables — with only a pound of ground turkey and about half a cup of dried brown lentils. I ate a big bowl… and then I ate three or four more. It was one of those meals that feels both comforting and corrective, like my body was trying to get back on track. A heavy breakfast, a full day of nothing, and then a giant nutritious reset in soup form.
And then… the real highlight of the day hit, another newsletter subscriber! I didn’t pass out many business cards today — only a few at McDonald’s and Benino’s — but somehow one of them worked. A brand new subscriber came in. That alone is huge. The machine is responding. It’s still small, still early, still fragile… but it’s real. And nothing is more motivating than proof. Even a single subscriber is proof.
That said, I also felt a flicker of concern when I looked at the newsletter stats. Only one open — and I suspect it’s me. That raised a fear that the newsletter might be going to people’s spam folders or getting buried in Promotions. It’s frustrating, because the work is real, the content is good, and the whole thing depends on people actually seeing it. But even that fear has a bright side: it means I’m thinking like a builder. I’m paying attention. I’m tracking. I’m not just dreaming — I’m measuring.
And on the creative side, a new Already Becoming video plan crystallized tonight too. I’ve been sitting with the idea of making a longform video about a beach scene I filmed — green grass, waves, sun, and a ship far off in the distance — tied to a childhood memory of lying in a hayfield watching clouds and making animals out of them. I remember thinking I should do it again… and I never did. That theme — how the simplicity of peace gets left behind as life speeds up — felt like pure Already Becoming. We wrote a full narration script, then tightened it to a shorter version, created metadata, and even distilled it into a Short. It felt like content alchemy: taking a simple moment and turning it into something resonant.
Then, unexpectedly, the content pivoted into something even bigger: The Matrix. I decided that for Sunday’s long video I may want to do a reflective Already Becoming narration based on The Matrix — not a movie review, but a meditation on waking up. We wrote a five-minute script that felt perfectly aligned with my tone: quiet, true, and inward. “Waking up isn’t loud” became the central line. And the closing landed on something simple but powerful: it starts the moment I stop ignoring what I know. We created meta for the long video, then trimmed the narration into a Short under a minute, then created meta for that Short too. It all clicked. This was one of those days where the creative pipeline felt alive.
So that was today: a mixture of sleep, soup, synchronicity, old love echoes, local coffee, a drive, one new subscriber, and a renewed sense that my systems are actually starting to work. It wasn’t a perfectly disciplined day — but it was a deeply human one. And maybe that’s part of the lesson too. Not perfection. Progress. Not certainty. Movement.
Tonight I’m tired. I’m going to bed. And maybe I’ll wake up later and do some work. But either way, something is happening. The Brew is growing. The videos are forming. The past is whispering. And the future, somehow, feels closer than it did yesterday.
