📋Additional Daily Notes

The day started with a strange kind of tension in the air. The headlines were intense, talking about deadlines and the possibility of escalation overseas, the kind of language that makes you pause and wonder if something bigger is about to unfold. It felt like one of those moments where the world might shift, or at least where it feels like it might. I didn’t know what was going to happen, and that uncertainty sat there for a bit.

So I made a decision.

I sold all the stocks in my Fidelity ROTH and 401K accounts. Not because I knew something, and not because I was trying to outsmart the market, but because I wanted to be in a position where no matter what happened next, I would be okay. It wasn’t about predicting the future. It was about removing risk. About stepping back and giving myself options.

Right after that, I found myself thinking about Warren Buffett. Not in some abstract way, but in a very grounded one. The idea of holding cash, waiting patiently, letting opportunities come to you instead of chasing them. The thought that maybe the next phase isn’t about reacting, but about being ready.

And then, almost immediately after making that decision, I went to McDonald’s for breakfast (see photo to the right).

I ordered an Egg McMuffin, a hash brown, and a coffee, and sat down in a booth with my tablet in front of me. On the screen were the same intense headlines — talk of conflict, of potential consequences, of things that sounded big and irreversible. And there I was, sitting quietly, eating breakfast. The coffee was hot. The hash brown was crispy. Nothing around me had actually changed. The world outside that booth was exactly the same as it had been before I sold anything.

But something had shifted.

Not out there — in here.

I wasn’t reacting anymore. I had already made my move. I had stepped out of the noise, at least partially, and into a position where I didn’t need to know what was going to happen next. I could just sit there and observe.

Later on, I checked my newsletter. Seventeen subscribers. Not eighteen, not some big jump — just seventeen. But one of them had joined today. Somewhere in the middle of all of this, while the headlines were loud and the decisions felt big, one more person quietly chose to follow along. No fanfare. No spike. Just one.

At some point in the day, I also stopped into Subway. Another simple, ordinary moment — ordering food, standing in line, going through the motions. No one there knew anything about markets or headlines or decisions being made earlier in the day. It was just people getting lunch, moving through their routines. And in that, there was something grounding too. Life continuing, completely unaffected by whatever was happening on a screen.

In the afternoon, I did something I had been meaning to do for a while. I cleaned the bathroom — the floor, the toilet, the sink. Nothing glamorous, nothing strategic. Just something real that needed to be done. And when it was finished, it was finished. No uncertainty, no speculation, no “what if.” Just a clean space where there hadn’t been one before.

Looking back on the day, it wasn’t about the markets, or the headlines, or even the money.

It was about moving from uncertainty into action, and then from action into stability.

The world might or might not change. Markets will go up or down. Opportunities will come or pass. But today was a reminder that I don’t need to have the answers to everything to move forward. I just need to make the next decision in front of me, and then the next one after that.

Nothing had changed.

But everything had.
