The day started with the usual grounding ritual: the Morning Prayer to the Universe — asking for guidance, awareness of the “bridges,” and movement toward what’s written in the Little Red Book. Then came the weigh-in. The running numbers currently sit at 361.9 lbs down to 335.3 lbs, a 26.6-pound total loss so far. At the current pace, the math suggests 199.5 lbs by October 27, 2026, or 199.9 lbs by January 1, 2027. Either way, the destination remains the same: 199.9 lbs… FINALLY.

2026-03-08 - Benino's

Part of the writing work today involved continuing the Ultimate Manifestation Letter, specifically exploring a fictional relationship scenario about a husband forgetting an important anniversary and how a calm, emotionally mature partner might respond. The character work is interesting because it forces you to think about emotional maturity, communication, and how relationships actually function when real stress appears.

Later in the day I stopped at Benino’s Coffee & Gelato for a coffee break. Breakfast there consisted of a breakfast sandwich and a mocha topped with whipped cream, enjoyed while watching a little YouTube and letting the mind wander in that quiet café atmosphere that seems perfect for thinking. After that, a two-scoop gelato of “Bubble Gum” & “Licorice” flavors! (see photo to the right).

One of the videos that caught my attention showed a clever 3D-printed music comb that plays the melody of Take On Me by a-ha when a strip is pulled through it. Naturally that led to wondering how much something like that would cost to make. Surprisingly, if you already own a 3D printer, the material cost is probably well under a dollar. The real challenge isn’t printing the object but designing the musical strip so the spacing produces the correct notes.

The curiosity train kept rolling. Another question popped up about the old supersonic airliner Aérospatiale‑BAC Concorde and whether anyone could still fly on one. Sadly the answer is no; Concorde passenger service ended in 2003 after decades of incredibly fast trans-Atlantic flights. Today the aircraft mostly sit in museums as relics from a time when commercial air travel briefly outran the speed of sound.

Then there was the matter of Daylight Saving Time here in Courtenay. Because today was March 8, the clocks moved forward overnight. That led to a deeper question: could this actually be the last clock change in British Columbia? The province has discussed eliminating the twice-yearly time shift and remaining permanently on daylight time, though the final decision has been tied partly to coordination with neighboring U.S. states along the Pacific coast. It’s an oddly historic thought that the simple act of adjusting the clocks might someday quietly disappear.

Somewhere in the middle of all this came a lighter exercise: thinking up humorous responses for a therapist intake form. The idea was to write something playful in the spirit of Robin Williams — self-aware and funny without being flippant. One line that stood out was: “Nothing you need to prepare for — just a brain that occasionally runs too many tabs at once.”

And so the day moved along in that familiar mix of small rituals and random curiosities — the AI Diet plan, manifestation writing, coffee at Benino’s, odd technological questions, reflections about time itself, and a little humor about the human condition.

Some days don’t look dramatic from the outside, but they contain a surprisingly wide range of thoughts. Coffee, curiosity, and a quiet Sunday in the Comox Valley can do that.
