I thought I would start today’s photo off with a picture of the ground outside the “Barn Suite” (see photo to the right). Why? Just because I can…
Today began with the usual routine that starts most mornings now. I said my Morning Prayer to the Universe, asking for guidance, clarity, and the ability to notice whatever bridges might appear along the way. After that came the scale. The number this morning was 336.9 lbs, which means that from the high point of 361.9 lbs, the total weight loss currently stands at 25.0 pounds. Seeing the number again helps keep the long-term target in focus. At a steady pace of half a pound per day, the projection would put the weight under 200 lbs by late October of this year. Even at a slightly slower pace, the goal of 199.9 lbs still appears achievable within the broader timeline.
One of the main things I did today was record a new “before” weight-loss video while wearing the black polo shirt. It’s never the most comfortable thing to document where things actually stand, especially after drifting away from the earlier progress made last year. But the camera doesn’t lie, and that honesty is part of the process. In a strange way, recording that video felt like pressing a reset button. It marks the moment where the journey begins again in a very intentional way.
Creatively, the day also produced a small piece of content. I finished creating a YouTube Short called “Snow Rain Drive.” The idea came from a moment while driving through weather that couldn’t decide what it wanted to be — rain, snow, and something in between. When visibility drops in those conditions, the world shrinks down to whatever your headlights can reach. At one point two headlights appeared ahead of me and, for a brief second, my mind prepared for a collision. But then both cars turned off onto a side street and disappeared. The road ahead was suddenly empty again. The realization from that moment became the theme of the video: sometimes we brace ourselves for things that were never actually coming for us.
Another part of the day involved recording two Nighttime Whispers dreams from the previous night. One of them involved encountering Dean Martin, someone I’ve always associated with effortless cool and confidence. In the dream I asked him how he became that way and found myself unexpectedly emotional as I told him how impressive I always thought he was. Just as he began explaining the answer, I woke up. The second dream involved visiting the house of a childhood friend named Dwayne, who lived up the road when we were growing up. In the dream I wandered through the house looking for the bathroom and discovered that the layout was similar to what I remembered, but not exactly the same. Both dreams had that symbolic quality that makes them feel like small messages from somewhere deeper in the mind.
Later in the evening I decided to get out of the house for a bit and drove over to Benino’s. I ordered a London Fog and had one of their cranberry-coconut cake slices, which made for a quiet mid-week café stop. The place had that familiar relaxed atmosphere — people talking softly, others working on laptops, and the usual comfortable hum of a neighborhood café.
After leaving there I made a quick stop at McDonald’s and picked up their new promotional meal that comes with an NHL collectible. This one included a Quinn Hughes mini hockey stick, which was a fun little surprise tied to the promotion.
So the day turned out to be a mixture of reflection and small ordinary moments — recording the weight-loss video, finishing the Snow Rain Drive YouTube Short, documenting the two Nighttime Whispers dreams, and ending the evening with a café stop followed by a quick fast-food run. Just another mid-week entry in the ongoing Becoming journey.
