📋Additional Daily Notes

Monday started early, around 4:45 a.m., with a dream that stayed with me. I found myself at street level in a dense city, surrounded by towering skyscrapers, like a financial district. I wasn’t climbing or entering the buildings. I was underneath them, trying to solve a combination involving numbers like 20, 48, and 26, turning one way, then another. I wasn’t even sure what the combination would unlock, only that it mattered and that time felt tight. At one point a homeless man casually told me I could stay with him if I couldn’t solve it. Later, someone walked by and laughed, saying I had the numbers and should have written them down. I remember panicking, thinking maybe I should just “manifest” the solution instead of working so hard to remember it. I can’t recall whether the lock ever opened. I woke up before knowing the outcome.

After waking, I did something different. Instead of sitting down at the computer right away, I spent about an hour organizing the Barn Suite. I put three storage boxes away, cleared some lingering clutter, and finally stored some canned food I’d bought at Costco the other day. It wasn’t dramatic work, but it made the space feel more livable, more settled, and less like everything was in temporary piles waiting for some future version of me to deal with it.

I also ordered a small corner bookshelf to go in the studio area so I can properly store my guitar pedals and music accessories. It felt like a practical decision, not aspirational, just creating a place for things I already use and care about. Another small move toward making my environment easier to inhabit instead of something I constantly have to work around.

Later in the afternoon, I went out to Freya to read. While I like the space itself, an interaction reminded me that not every environment is equally calming for me anymore. A woman who seems to be a regular came in and began rambling loudly, crossing into personal and uncomfortable territory. The staff seemed used to it, but I noticed my own discomfort and took it seriously. It made me realize that choosing where I spend my time isn’t just about coffee or atmosphere anymore, but about how regulated and at ease I feel while I’m there.

While reading, I watched a short video with Stephen King talking about writing (see photo to the right). He described writing a novel as being like a court reporter, simply writing down what happens rather than trying to force a story. It struck me because Quentin Tarantino has said almost the exact same thing about writing screenplays. That idea landed for me today. It connected directly to how I’ve been journaling, logging dreams, and writing about my days. Paying attention and recording what’s actually happening feels more honest and sustainable right now than trying to engineer meaning or outcomes.

By the evening, what stood out most wasn’t any single insight, but the overall arc of the day. I rested when I needed to, organized physical space, made a small investment in my creative environment, noticed and respected my boundaries in public, and reflected without forcing conclusions. Nothing flashy happened. Nothing resolved all at once. But I stayed intact, present, and engaged with my actual life instead of chasing an imagined future.

If there’s a theme to today, it’s learning to live at street level, writing things down instead of panicking, and letting meaning emerge later rather than demanding it show up on command.
