📋Additional Daily Notes

Something I noticed yesterday, they sell Filipino style spaghetti sauce at Thrifty Foods (see photo to the right). In fact they have a section dedicated to Philippino foods.
Last night I had a vivid, lingering dream in which I was at a Tony Robbins seminar with some friends, including Karl, a man I met at a real Tony Robbins event about thirty years ago. We were close back then and shared a sense of drive and possibility. In the dream, Karl looked like a zombie, hollow and distant. He said something bleak like “This doesn’t work anymore,” and walked away. I told him I loved him, and that seemed to snap him out of it. He turned, suddenly alert, as if he hadn’t heard that kind of sincerity in years.
The kids opened Day #2 of the Advent Calendar today when they got home from school. My son got some powder that forms crystals when you put it in water. It’s a small thing, but it’s part of the tradition I’ve been trying to build over the years—stretching Christmas into something that unfolds slowly instead of being swallowed whole in one morning.
One of our new hens, which my daughter named “Morticia,” is a pest. She’s pecking the others and won’t let them come up onto the roost to perch. We ended up having to put all the others up and keep her away. Barnyard politics. Everything becomes a microcosm of hierarchy.
In the middle of all this normal life, I was still thinking about my son wanting to see Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, and how it’s rated PG-13. It’s strange to be having such heavy emotional realizations about my life while simultaneously worrying about whether a horror movie is too intense for a ten-year-old. I had planned on going to McDonald’s this evening for a coffee, just to sit and be alone with my thoughts for a bit, but I didn’t make it. Between feeling unwell and being tired, I ended up staying home instead.
Today felt like a day of emotional oscillation. Living ordinary family life—kids at school, music lessons, chickens misbehaving—while wrestling with deeper questions about love, friendship, selfhood, and the trajectory of my life. It all feels oddly intertwined. Tiny events, domestic rituals, successes, injuries, grades, errands, and then underneath, something heavier: grief, longing, imagination, exhaustion, and some fragile desire for a gentler chapter.
Tonight I’m tired, physically and emotionally. Maybe tomorrow will be lighter. For now, I’ll try to rest without guilt.
