📋Additional Daily Notes

My daughter was dealing with impostor syndrome today — that familiar voice that tells you you’re not good enough, that you’re fooling everyone, that you don’t really belong. It’s painful to see her feel that way, because from where I stand, she is capable, thoughtful, creative, and strong. So I took her for a drive. We didn’t try to fix anything in a big, dramatic way. We just drove. We talked a little. We were quiet a little. Sometimes the best thing you can give your child isn’t advice — it’s presence. A reminder that they’re not alone in their doubts.
I stopped off at McDonalds on Guthrie Road to use their restroom. I didn’t see anything on the way in, but on the way out I saw a Canadian quarter on the ground (see photo to the right). It sounds insignificant, but it stuck with me. I’d been thinking since yesterday about writing “find a Toonie” in my “Little Red Book” List — where I write intentions, thoughts, and things I want to pay attention to. I hadn’t gotten around to writing anything more than the all important #1 item yet. In fact, as of late, I’d even stopped consciously looking for one. And then, on a day when I was feeling emotionally unsettled, there was that quarter, sitting there on cracked concrete, easy to miss. Not a Toonie. Just a quarter. But still something. Still a reminder that small things show up when you’re paying attention…
It felt like a quiet nudge: you don’t always get exactly what you think you’re asking for, and you don’t always get it on your timeline, but you get little signs along the way. Proof that noticing matters. That intention matters. That life answers in increments. Dimes and quarters before Toonies? Small confirmations before big ones. That quarter became more than change in my pocket — it became a symbol of patience, of not forcing things, of trusting slow progress.

In the evening, feeling restless and emotionally drained, I went out again. I had learned that Manvirros Indian Grill sells dosas, and that caught my attention. I ordered a masala dosa (see photo to the left) — warm, crisp, comforting, and different enough to feel like a small adventure. Sitting there with my food, just being present, felt grounding. For a few minutes, I wasn’t thinking about missed goodbyes, or worries, or future questions. I was just eating.
After that, I drove to Walmart and picked up some chips and dip and a few chocolate bars, then stopped at McDonald’s for a McFlurry before heading home. It wasn’t a disciplined eating day. It was emotional eating, if I’m honest. Self-soothing. A way of giving myself small comforts after a heavy day. I’m aware of that pattern now. I don’t always like it, but I see it. And sometimes, instead of judging myself, I try to understand why I’m doing it.
Looking back, today was about presence and patience. About noticing what hurts without dramatizing it. About showing up for my daughter. About feeding myself — imperfectly. About paying attention to small signs. About trusting that the Little Red Book, the quarter, the toonie, the intentions, the reflections — they’re all part of a longer story I’m still writing.
Life right now isn’t about dramatic breakthroughs. It’s about small moments: a missed goodbye, a long drive, a warm meal, a pocketed coin, a few lines in a notebook. It’s about learning to see meaning in ordinary days and staying engaged with them anyway.
And for now, that’s enough.
