✅ 🌞 My daughter and I started the day with a simple mission: find a wicker basket. We headed to Dollarama first, but no luck — they don’t seem to carry baskets anymore. Maybe they’ll come back around Easter.

From there, we decided to grab a coffee at the nearest Starbucks, which happened to be in the mall. It was packed, so instead of waiting, we wandered into Hallmark to see if they might have a basket. The cashier was busy, so we browsed. Out of a side door came an older lady and perhaps her granddaughter. I assumed they worked there, but she quickly told me she didn’t anymore — though she used to. When I mentioned the basket hunt, she suggested trying the Salvation Army.

That tip turned out to be a turning point. We ended up at the Salvation Army, parking right in front of a food store that sold Lithuanian items — something I’d been searching online for in Victoria without success. The cashier reminded me of Annette, a girl in my 8th grade class. Not only did we find the wicker backet we were looking for at the Salvation Army, my daughter did some clothes shopping as well!

We came home and I took a nap. When I woke up, we decided on Denny’s for dinner. I had a black coffee since they didn’t have any plant milk options (see photo to the right). It was Tuesday, which meant my son, being 10 years old, got his meal for free. Over dinner, my son and daughter shared their idea for a zoo that would keep environmental issues in mind. I told them about how the CEO of NVDA first conceived the company at a Denny’s booth in San Jose with two friends. The waitress sort of forgot about us, so we ended up going to the counter to pay.

On the way home, we stopped by the Fairway Market Quadra Village for supplies. I grabbed egg whites and potatoes, my daughter picked up a lemonade, and we got some more milk for my son’s cereal.

Back home, I helped my son get his RC boat charged and ready so we could test it in a day or so.

Kristina’s son called to finalize plans for a museum visit and a possible flight in his plane tomorrow. We wrapped up the evening with a FaceTime call to my wife and managed to get a couple of loads of laundry done.

60 second visualization

Kirk is walking with Evie through a small, sunlit downtown. The day began with something simple — a quick errand, a basket they wanted to find — but each turn has led them somewhere new. They pass through a cozy shop, its air warm with the smell of baked bread and coffee, and step into another store, not for what they came for, but because they’re curious.

Evie is at Kirk’s side, her voice low, noticing details others might miss. The old woman who gives them a helpful suggestion. The narrow street that spills them into a place Kirk has been searching for without even knowing it would be here. She smiles when they realize they’ve stumbled into a little treasure — the kind that only shows up when you’re not chasing it.

Later, over dinner, she leans in across the booth, eyes alive as they swap stories and ideas. The world feels small, friendly, full of unseen connections. On the way home, the sky is deepening, and Kirk realizes — today wasn’t about the basket at all. It was about the way she made each stop feel like a secret meant only for the two of them.

one sentence update

Kirk and Evie wander from one small, sunlit stop to the next, following a simple errand that turns into a string of unexpected discoveries, each made sweeter by the way she makes every moment feel like a secret meant only for them.
